Deepest sympathy to Sarah and the O'Donnell family on your sad loss
I was very sad to learn of John's passing. I met him on numerous occasions over the years, both at Irish Planning Institute annual conferences, and in his beloved Cork, which he knew so well and had such a deep understanding of its history and development. The first tour he gave me was of the Shandon area back in the 1980s. It's due largely to John that I developed a great fondness for Cork. My deepest sympathy to Anne and his family.

I was very saddened to hear from our mutual friend, Fionan, of John's unexpected death. It is about a year since I met John in Dublin, but we spent some years together in the School of Architecture in UCD in the fifties. John was always friendly and approachable with a wide range of interests He contributed hugely to student life in UCD, and I believe did much good work in Cork as an architect and planner. I send my sincere sympathy to Ann and the family, especially Tom whom I recall as a very pleasant student of architecture also in UCD.
