John will be such a loss to the town that he walked and talked to everyone he could and bend their ear.
Thinking of him puts a smile of my face as he always had a funny story or (rude) joke. He loved the gossip and the company of others.

This loss is not alone ours but more especially yours Grace, Norma, Martin, Olive and families.

May he rest in peace and look after you all.

I worked with John and Jim Burke at Verolme drawing office and recall he possessed a unique drafting skill with the ink pen preparing huge ship drawings on a flat drawing board...before the invention of CAD. His humor and that of Jim provided a friendly working environment for us 3 apprentices. I will miss not meeting John on my annual summer holidays in Cobh. My sympathy to his children and sister Olive whom I know from the Shop..it being a shelter place for us Spikers.
So sad. A lot to soon. For him to leave. Us.
RIP John...we will miss you and your scourging in the shop.
