Maeliosa, we were so sorry to hear of the passing of your dad, John Oliver. I have great memories of meeting him when I visited you in Baurisheen a few years ago. Thinking of you, Ronan, Siobhan, and Ultan, and sending you all our love.

Good bye my friend Johnny ! Many many memories and stories from the golf club. His belief and his passion around fishing and golfing and card playing are legendary but easily forgotten (or maybe not ) was his forthright views on politics. During his year as club captain he was obliged to welcome a prominent FF member of government to oughterard and prefaced his welcome by naming some of the staunch FF captains who preceded him but “why did this welcoming speech have to fall to a blue shirt”. Nothing like hanging your color shirt to the mast. RIP JO

Very saddened to hear that John Oliver has passed away and heartfelt condolences to Ronan, Ultan, Siobhán, Maelíosa and the extended Molloy families. He was one of nature's gentlemen and his insightful knowledge, wisdom and experience helped me enormously over the years to chart the early Prehistory of Oughterard. As well as giving me the information, John also gave me his valuable time, and he always gave it graciously and generously. It wasn't all about fishing either as John, landscape, nature, wisdom and life were woven together in a myriad of senses. He is one of the great and celebrated Corrib Boatmen and he will be greatly missed by everyone who ever had the pleasure of his wonderful company.
