So sad to hear the sad news. It seems like only yesterday he was singing for me. We had so many musical sessions together. Can’t believe he’s gone.

As a friend and co student of John, through secondary school, UCD, and a fellow Gaelic football member with the Round Towers, the Kildare County Minors, and on championship Knockbeg football and hurling teams, not to mention the many rounds golf. John was a fair and worthy team mate and opponent, and a true gentleman and friend. We have kept in contact over our lifetime despite being separated by the Atlantic Ocean. He will be missed greatly.

My deepest sympathies to Catherine and all of John's family. I have lovely memories of accompanying John at various Church Services over the years. He had a wonderful singing voice, and had a wonderful presence. I was so glad to have accompanied him for the recording he did a few years ago of some Percy French Songs. His superb interpretations of these songs really brought to life all the characters and stories with such humour and excellent timing, that you would think you were there at Phil the Fluter's Ball 'with the toot on the flute and a twiddle on the fiddle-oh'.
I am so proud to have been part of this recording with John and I will treasure it forever. May he rest in peace.
