My condolences to the O’Reilly family on John’s passing.
He was one of the most interesting, incisive, witty and generally engaging thinkers I ever met; he was always very curious, and thought long-term and big picture - and not just about the food industry.
I only heard the sad news today; I am sorry, I would have liked to pay my respects at his funeral.
May he rest in peace.

Deepest Sympathy to Ruth and John's family on the sad passing of their beloved John R.I.P. I was very saddened to read of his passing in the Journal this morning. Irish agribusiness has lost a great champion and an exceptional analyst and incisive commentator. John was always a pleasure to meet and to share his wise insights on the latest business and world developments. Ni fheicimid a leithead aris. Be assured of my thoughts and prayers at this sad time.
Deepest sympathy to all of John’s family and friends. John was a great, energetic and knowledgeable gentleman that will be sadly missed.
Bríd and I wish to express our deepest sympathy to Ruth and John’s family on his sad passing.
I’ve only now heard the news and I regret not knowing so I could pay my respects at the funeral.
John played a pivotal role in the development of Irish Agribusiness particularly in the 1980’s when capital was scarce and expensive. He continued to support the sector in his own inimitable fashion and he will be very fondly remembered.
May he Rest in Peace.
Sincerely
Brid and Owen Killlian

Sending our heartfelt condolences to Rosie and family on the passing of your father. May he rest in peace. From all at Eastwall Watersports Group.
It was my great pleasure to work with John in the Farmers' Journal during the mid-eighties. His sharp incisive mind and uncanny ability to decipher the truth behind financial accounts made him the leading financial journalist of his generation. Together with Journal editor, Paddy O'Keeffe, John waged an incessant campaign against public sector waste represented by a herd of state and semi-state white elephants which were regularly depicted in cartoon form on page two of the Jounal. John was an instigator of the notion that a dairy cooperative could be floated on the stock market which led to Kerry going public and took John from the Journal to Davy. He was unique. My sincere condolences to his family.
So very sorry to get the news about John. Have happy memories of many games of tennis we played together in Claremont over the years. My sincere sympathies to Ruth and all John’s family.
My deepest sympathies to you Ruth and all of John’s family. May your love and care for John bring you comfort x
John was always interesting and enlightening on business, philosophy, and life generally. He was the first choice for the quiz team. I found him to be a gentleman and a scholar. Very sorry for your loss.
Sincere sympathy to Ruth, Patrick, Roseanne, Jane and the extended family on the sad passing of John. May he rest in peace.
John was a wonderful friend to our late father, Chris, and to our entire family. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering support touched us all. He was truly one of a kind — a great man whose presence made the world better. We will miss him deeply.
Deepest sympathy to John’s family and friends.
I got to know John over the years in the Research Department of Davy. He was a true gentleman. He loved to ‘shoot the breeze’ and his wisdom, warmth, wit, and endless curiosity made every conversation illuminating. I remember his infectious enthusiasm for Bloomsday, his love of the arts, and the way he could weave literature into life so effortlessly. He will be greatly missed.
May he rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to Ruth, Patrick, Rosanne, Jane on the sad passing of John. I worked closely with John over many years in the Food Research department at Davy.
John had a brilliant mind and stood out as an analyst who interpreted the world differently to most.
He was a great mentor and friend - always generous with his time and wisdom. We shared many memorable trips to Europe, North America and famously in the Ukraine. He brought colour, insight and challenge to every debate and occasion. He was never afraid to stand his corner. So many good memories and stories. He will be greatly missed.

My sincere condolences to the O'Reilly family on the sad loss of John.
John was not only a true gent and a man of integrity, but also someone whose wisdom and wit made every interaction memorable. I always appreciated his straight-talking nature, and - as seen in the heartfelt messages from other former colleagues and friends at Davy - his presence was deeply valued by all who had the privilege to work alongside him.
John will be missed and fondly remembered, exactly as he was - relaxed and pensive - per the lovely photo chosen for his notice.

Very saddened to hear of John's passing. He was a great character to work with in Davy Research. Sincere condolences to his family.
John was my mentor when I joined Davy in 2002 and how fortunate I was to have such a kind and generous individual to guide me through the early part of my career. He truly had a “beautiful mind” and was almost clairvoyant where it came to extrapolating future trends in the food industry. He was a skilled orator with a beautiful turn of phrase. A genius with an extraordinary thirst for knowledge who never accepted the conventional wisdom. A great man. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam

Sincere sympathy to all of John’s family on his death. I worked with him for 17 years at Davy and there was never a dull moment. You always left his office with a new insight into something practical or more likely impractical! Nil a leitheid an aris! It would not be appropriate to have a tribute to “The Doc” without a bit of poetry and I read these Seamus Heaney lines for him at his “retirement” in 2017 and I think it captures just a bit of the man “there was an extra-ness in the air (when he was about), as if a gate had been left open in the usual life, as if something might get in or get out”. Rest in Peace John
Ruth, I am so sorry that John had so little time to enjoy my parents former home in Park Avenue. My condolences to you and to all who loved him.
