I had the privilege of being a colleague of John in St. MacDara's for almost twenty years. He was full of kindness, compassion, patience and wisdom. We had many discussions over timetabling for our school. He was always a true gentleman, friend, teacher and mentor who gave his all to Education. Very sad to hear this news. We enjoyed many an hour together when we both worked for the County Dublin VEC. St MacDara's CC was truly blessed to have John and the late Seamus as its founding leaders. John was the epitome of a gentleman, a truly lovely person. My sincere condolences to his wife and family.

I remember going on a school tour with him to Kilkenny and never realised how proud someone could be of their home county as he showed us around. A kind, happy man, immensely proud of his family. I worked for many years at St. Mac Dara's C.C. with John as the Deputy Principal. He was always so kind and considerate, very helpful and had a great sense of humour. I recall many happy occasions but especially a school tour to Kilkenny. John organised the tour which was very educational and informative and great fun. We visited all of the historical sites with John as the guide and everybody learned so much and really enjoyed the day.
John was a true gentleman. May he rest in peace.
