Some pleasant memories of John's early years associated with sailing in Kinsale. Always innovative, he was the first to sail a catamaran in the harbour which in a fresh breeze was quite spectacular and subsequently was involved in the introduction of the Enterprise, Albacore and Flying 15 classes. Constantly purposeful and constructive his contribution will continue to be appreciated.
Rest in peace Jeanot I hope you are sailing along with your pipe and a drop in hand. Your stories will be missed.
Sincere sympathy to you Tim and the Petch family. May John Rest In Peace.
We send our sincere condolences to Lib and the entire family at this very sad time. A true man of the sea held in the highest esteem by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Our late parents Anne & Sammy Mearns had many a fun time with Johno and Lib over the years. We are thinking of you today especially.
I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Johno. I had the pleasure of sailing with him from Cork to Pensacola in nineteen eighty-five and we laughed all the way. We left Cork in early March on a racer named “Wee Willy Winky”. We arrived in Madera on St Patrick's and had the best party ever. As we left Madera, we lost the mast overboard. Johno took it all in his stride and started making phone calls. Within a day or two we were motoring to the Canaries to pick up a new mast. We had to wait in “Playa del Something,” for three months, but not to worry, Brandy was two dollars a bottle and we were paid a hundred dollars a week by the insurance company. An epic trip, Bon Voyage Johno,
