Deepest Sympathy to the Bradley family on the sad passing of John. May His Gentle Soul Rest In Eternal Peace🙏🏻.
Deepest condolences to Mary and John's family on his sudden passing. As others have said he was a true intellectual spirit, always challenging and the column in the Mayo News showed this in recent years. He was also a very supportive colleague and friend when you met him at conferences, were invited into his home in Portobello or, in recent years, at times we were in Westport. He'll be much missed for both reasons by many folk.
Deepest sympathy to Mary and John's family and friends on his sudden passing. I was shocked to hear of his passing on my way from Belfast to Louisburgh on Thursday last. I had planned to meet up with him for one of our occasional chats to set the world to rights over this weekend. I first came to know John in Belfast where he undertook ground breaking research on regional development and cross-border co-operation. Thereafter I came to know him better as a fellow Mayo man and as a stimulating convenor of the Louisburgh (Pantry). Book Club. Mayo, the west of Ireland generally and the campaign for revitalising Irish railways have lost a brilliant and committed advocate. I will sadly miss his columns in the Mayo News and his much valued friendship.
I only met John in recent years, messing about with our boats. Only heard of his passing yesterday as we were planning the lift out. A lovely man and great for the chat, we'll miss him on the Quay.
Truly shocked that Sean is gone - life is so fragile - special thoughts for his wife Mary - may he rest in peace
John and I co-authored many papers and reports. Andy Pollack mentioned the Cross Border study. We also did economic policy analysis for Estonian and Albanian ministries which involved visiting numerous companies. The purpose was to create a production and business system input for development planning to compliment John’s expertise in macro modelling. John had an extraordinary capacity for hard, detailed work, a commitment to get to the truth of economic matters, and a compassion for making policymaking relevant to people’s lives. We did not start from the same methodological orientation but we became the closest of friends which saw us through differences and I believe made us both smarter economists. It was not always easy because John as we all know, as well as being incredibly bright could also be demanding, stubborn and sometimes excessively blunt! For me, a great redeeming virtue was his reflectiveness and relentless drive to learn more and make sense of how economies actually work. While highly educated in statistics and mathematics, he was a wordsmith, an editor par excellence, and a lover of literature, especially anything Irish. I admire greatly his talent for writing a bi-monthly 800 word column for the Mayo News. Few towns are so lucky, as his columns were always thoughtful and suggestive. He was unique, a one-off. But most of all, for me, he was a dear friend who made my life much richer. It will take a long time to accept that he is no longer with us.
Sincere sympathies to you Mary and to John's extended family from all his friends in Westport Civic Trust. May he Rest in Peace.
We are so much saddened by John's sudden and untimely passing. He was a leading European expert on macro-econometric modelling and was highly regarded, appreciated and respected across Europe and beyond for his outstanding work. John shared his knowledge and expertise with immense talent and generosity. We greatly enjoyed the intellectually challenging conversations we had on economic policy in Ireland, Europe and the world. We will always remember the wonderful time we shared with John and Mary in Dublin and Murrisk.
We extend our heartfelt sympathies to Mary and the family at this difficult time. May he rest in peace.

Our sincerest sympathies, Mary, on John's death. John was always forthright and interesting whether discussing writing in the Pantry Book Club, which he anchored with panache for so long, or the opportunities for economic development in Mayo, of which he was both passionate and insightful. His wisdom and company will be a loss to all who knew him. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Deepest condolences to Mary & extended Bradley family on the untimely passing of John.
Doctor Bradley was a passionate advocate for leveling up the regions in Ireland.
John's 2 excellent reports on the Atlantic Economic Corridor can serve as the templates for future Irish governments in emphasizing the importance of significant funding being allocated to rail infrastructure (like the Western Rail Corridor) to improve transport and connectivity thus acting as the catalysts to support western regeneration and connectivity.
John's legacy will live on through his writings & work

My sincere condolences on this sad news. I worked closely with John during my time in the ESRI and I learned a tremendous amount from him. He once gave me a loan of his car to drive down the coast despite my having just failed the driving test. That was a spontaneous act of faith and kindness that I have never forgotten. Suaimhneas síoraí.
Our sincere condolences to Mary and her extended family and friends on the sad death of John. He was a wonderful support to us and a sound voice of reason .May he rest in peace.

I am very sad and shocked to hear of the passing of Seán. My sympathies go out to Mary. Seán was a big supporter and fan of myself and my sailing adventures dating back to the mid 1980s when I sailed into Clew Bay. He loved the west and the sea. He had a particular interest in writings about the sea. I am so sorry to hear of your loss Mary.

But you’ll think of scant croppings
Harsh with salt of the sea.'

To the Bradley family , I am so sorry for your sudden loss of Sean . He was a lovely man . I had a lovely chat with him at the Men’s shed last Tuesday and am shocked and saddened at his sudden death . May he rest in peace
Mary, I am shocked and very sorry to hear that Sean has died - and I am so very sorry for your great loss. I have fond memories of you as a couple and individually in the ‘80s and ‘90s when we sailed together and with Bill O’Riordan, and had many enjoyable conversations and meals with you both, on boats and in your home in Griffith Avenue. Time has gone fast and Sean’s passing is way too soon. Please offer my condolences also to Kay and to Bernie. Sean, you and your sisters were a lovely family. Blessings on him and all of you.
Sincere condolences to Mary and John's family. John's passionate devotion to the West and his can-do commitment to the Westport Men's Shed enriched many lives. Founder and longtime member of Louisburgh's Pantry Book Club, he challenged us and broadened our experience of the larger world.
We are deeply thankful to have known him.

I was shocked and very sorry to hear of John's death. I exchanged emails with him only four months ago and he sounded like his usual brilliant, argumentative self. My heart goes out to you at this deeply sorrowful time.
John was a powerhouse of an economist, a huge supporter of the Centre for Cross Border Studies and a good (if sometimes exacting) friend. His 2012 report (with Michael Best) - 'Cross Border Economic Renewal: Rethinking Regional Policy in Ireland' - was a classic, highly praised in DG Regio in Brussels. He was an original and a bit of a genius. I will miss him greatly.

Condolences to all Sean's family and friends, May he RIP
Mary, I am so sorry for your loss of John. His love and admiration for you was evident to Ailish and I from when we first met you both in the early 1990s and in recent times. It was his defining personal characteristic. He, along with John FitzGerald, were my research professors as their assistant in the ESRI. Your John was one of a kind I have come to appreciate over time and many professional encounters both here, with regard to the All Island Economy, and Eastern European economies. His passion, intellect and dry humour were immense. Like all good things, his qualities and contributions have got better with age. He will be missed but remembered fondly.
Kay, we are so very sorry to hear about Sean’s sudden passing. You always spoke so fondly of him. Thinking of Mary and you all at this very difficult time. x Yvonne, Anne-Marie and George xx
Shocked to hear hear of Sean’s death.,May he rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with you Mary and the extended family
Dear Mary. What a shock to hear the very sad news this morning of John's sudden passing and sending you our sincerest condolences. John was a powerful personality and outstanding Irish economist whose legacy lives on, not least his pioneering and groundbreaking research contribution to this island's peace and prosperity. We also have many happy memories of your warm hospitality in Murrisk and Dublin filled with stimulating conversation, wonderful walks and great company. Rest in Peace John. Kay & Michael D'Arcy
Tears of sorrow for you Mary and the loss of Sean. I love you both with all my heart. He was one of a kind. The many, many times we emailed about our views on politics. I will miss that more than I can express. He was always interested in what was happening here and what I had to say. He was one of the smartest people I knew. He will be missed very much! Mary, you are in all our hearts here in Chicago.

John Bradley had a central role in the development of macro-econometric modelling in Ireland. His contribution has been a lasting one. I certainly learnt a lot from him in those years. At dheis De go raibh a anam.

I only came to know John fairly lately, when I joined our book group a few years ago.
He was always thoughtful and amusing if somewhat skeptical. We will miss his insights and quiet humour.

Sincere condolences on John's passing to all his family. He was a very kind supporter of swift nest box projects in Co. Mayo and his legacy will live on through the swifts that now call those nest boxes home. May he rest in peace.
John -- whom I always knew as Seán -- and I grew up in the same newly-built housing estate, and he was a very bright student of mine for a semester in UCD. Later our paths would cross from time to time -- I remember running into Mary and Seán off the SCR when I was doing a bit of research on the Dublin Jewish community in the 2000s, and I remember too him pointing out, very courteously, that I had mistaken Westport for Newport in a book I had just written. Not a mistake that Mayoman from Dublin would have made.
A lovely man, he'll be fondly remembered.

So Sorry to hear of John’s death. I learned a huge amount from working with John from the late 1970s, when he was in the Central Bank, and later when I joined him at the ESRI. He was always patient and helpful when I needed assistance. His work proved very important in understanding the Irish economy. His love of Murrisk, Mayo and the West, if anything, grew over the years. He was generous with his time and our children fondly remember when he and Mary took them on his boat to Ireland’s Eye, sharing his enthusiasm for boats and the sea. His wisdom will be hugely missed. Heartfelt sympathy Mary.
Condolences to Mary and all John’s

Mary, I was so very sorry to hear about Sean. My heart goes out to you during this most difficult time. Even though it has been a long time since I’ve seen Sean, I have fond memories of time we spent together. I especially remember him teaching me how to sail. He was such a kind man, and I’m sure he will be sorely missed by many.
