Sincere condolences to John's beloved sister Bridget, his partner Krongkan and her daughter, his extended family and Susan who so kindly communicated the sad news to many of us.
John's sudden passing was a shock and terrible loss to all who knew him. He was a very good friend with a great sense of humor, a kind heart and always a gentleman. His sartorial elegance was second to none.
He loved politics and he was a dedicated trade unionist and helped many in his various workforces after redeployment.
He was a fluent Irish speaker and a history scholar also.
Above all his dedication and concern for his beloved sister Bridget was a key part of his life.
It is with great sadness I will miss the phone calls and political debates.Branch meetings and Asti annual convention will not be the same in 2025 without his presence.
May John rest in peace.

It was will deep sadness that I learned of the passing of John. Sincere and heartfelt condolences to John's partner, Kronghan, his sister Bridget and all John's family and friends.
I had the privilege of working with John in Marino College for a number of years. I really enjoyed our 'Breakfast Club' chats - John was very knowledgeable and his interests were so varied - including Agatha Christie, dogs, current affairs, sports and all things educational - a man with great wisdom. He quickly became a valued member of the Marino College family and was highly respected by the students and staff. I loved John's great wit and sense of humour and mischievous smile.
The impact of a great teacher will be felt long after the end of class - John was a beacon of knowledge and inspiration - his presence left both classroom and staffroom a brighter place - thanks John for everything - you will be sorely missed by all at Marino College. However your legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of your students and in all of us fortunate enough to have met you.
A Legacy of Light by Matthew Ward.
'Though shadows fall and time moves on,
And earthy forms are gone from sight,
Your essence lives, a vibrant dawn,
In memories, a guiding light.'
Rest in Peace Mr. Woods.

I was so shocked to hear of John's passing, and my condolences to his partner and family. I have known him for over forty years although we only met up a few times a year. I knew he was ill but he seemed in good form when I called to see him in hospital - chatting about football, teaching, and days past. He was always good company and, wherever we were, John would always meet someone he knew. He will be missed.

I wasn't teaching with you John but met you at the local ASTI branch meetings in the Spawell some 15/16 years back and I was always amazed at your knowledge, enthusiasm and interest in the going's on in other schools. You would always be ready to address any queries anyone had and your advice was always second to none.
You will be sadly missed in school but also in the wider ASTI community.
Really nice to know you John.

Rip mr woods u were one of a kind
My sincerest condolences to Johns partner and family.
John was a colleague and friend of mine in Marino College.
It’s so easy to describe John’s character, a gentleman, a scholar, great sense of humour, sharp dresser, generous with his time, witty and knowledgeable in every conversation.
But what I’ll remember John most for is his abundance of kindness.
We connected over our mutual love of sport and had multiple chats and debates on the topic.
After my own Father died John checked in with me daily. Whether that was texting me a Joke, a sports meme or a funny video. When passing him in the school corridor I’d get an occasional wink or nudge followed by “you’re doing great”
John your spirit of generosity left a mark on the world that will live on forever. You will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

Mr woods was one of the chilled teachers I ever met I enjoyed working with him for nearly the last few years . He was such a kind person. At the start of every class he would say silence please and your sir ,MD might have putted notes on teams and he was into history. I made a love poem for valentine's day and he fell in love with it1 / 1
Love
In the realm of hearts, a fire burns so bright, Love's tender flame, a beacon in the night. It knows no boundaries, it breaks all chains, A force that heals, and forever remains.
Love is a whisper in the gentle breeze, A symphony of laughter, put at ease. It's in the touch of hands, so soft and warm, A refuge in the wildest, darkest storm.
A canvas painted with emotions grand, Love's colors blend, like footprints in the sand. It blooms in springtime's fragrant, blooming rose, And in the snowflakes of a winter's prose.
Love's power to mend, to bridge the divide, in every heart, a longing it can't hide. It's the sweetest song, the purest art, the magic that unites two souls, heart to heart.
So, cherish love, let it be your guide, in its embrace, let your fears subside. For in the dance of life, love takes the lead, A timeless bond that all of us can need.
Rest well Mr woods
There not anymore like you

It was with great shock and sadness that the news of the death of John reached us all on Thursday.
John was a colleague and loyal member of staff in CBS Crumlin for many years and it was my great pleasure to have served with him in Meanscoil Naomh Colm, Crumlin, during that time.
John Woods was a true gentleman and a scholar. He shared his love of history with his students and with us all in lively discussions in the staffroom. His love of the Irish language was shared but never imposed as he loved to converse as Gaeilge. John’s involvement in trade unionism, most especially with the ASTI was admirable and great debates and discussions were conducted with his usual wit and good humour.
I offer my sincere condolences to his partner, cousins and all who mourn John.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.

I travelled to town on a bus with John a few short months ago . He was in great form, full of chat and witty observations. He was his usual self and to me he seemed not to have changed in over 20 years. News of his death was a real shock as a result.
My sincere condolences to John's partner, family, and friends.

3rd year at Marino here, we will all miss Mr. Woods alot, we were always excited to see him when we were waiting outside of a class for too long, though my time at marino isn’t long, we all respected him as a teacher, and we felt we knew him quite well.
This unexpected news came as a great shock to everyone in 3rd year and everyone else, I will keep him in my prayers so that his time with us as a supervisor matters.
God bless and my deepest condolences to his family. - F.R.

some 1st years: We knew Mr Woods for less than a year but that was months of good fun talking to him about the football. he scared us at first because of his loud voice but we grew to know him well, rip.
some 2nd years: we knew Mr Woods for over a year, he covered our free classes and tried his best to keep us quiet, we will miss talking to him in the school halls and hearing his "Right! settle down!" echo through the halls when we have class
some 3rd years: Mr Woods was a very good man and has helped us throughout the last months of his life focus on studying during free classes for our junior cert, he will dearly be missed by the school
4th years: We talked to Mr Woods every day we could, chatting to him about life, the school and sports. Mr Woods was a good gentleman and really cared about the school and the students. Rest In Peace
5th years: "Right! Settle down! Take out yousre copies and i think the sir/miss left notes on teams" "sign that page and pass it around will you?", words we have learned by heart in the past 4-5 years of knowing Mr Woods, its hard for us to imagine never hearing those words ever again. an amazing substitute teacher and we're sure he was amazing as a full teacher, he was very assertive with every class, but as the class settled he was the least strict man you could have ever met, an absolute gentleman it was a pleasure to meet Mr Woods and we are heartbroken to hear of his death. RIP
We could not get in touch with the 6th years.

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of John’s passing. His guidance, knowledge and valuable advice since I had the privilege of meeting him will always remain in my heart and memory. Our breakfast club each morning before class was filled with great discussions about current affairs, history, and all kinds of sports that would carry you through until the next morning.
It was an honour and privilege to meet one of life’s true gentlemen!!
Rest easy!!
**Gone, Yet Always Here**
In quiet moments, your laughter lingers,
Echoing softly, like the touch of spring’s fingers.
A friend so true, a colleague so rare,
You filled our days with kindness and care.
Through shared tasks and dreams anew,
You showed us strength, the way you knew.
Now shadows fall where light once played,
And hearts ache in the void you’ve made.
Gone is the voice that steadied the team,
The bright spark that fueled our collective dream.
Yet in our minds, you’ll always stay,
Guiding us forward, come what may.
For loss is heavy, but love is vast—
You are the memory that will always last.
In every laugh, in every cheer,
Though you are gone, you are always near.
