John was one of life's gentlemen. Used to enjoy stopping for a chat and he was full of stories and had a great memory. Maybe the last story he told me recently on the road was a memory of the 14th April 1961 when he fished on the crew of the Rath Cormac with James and Thomas Cunningham, and my father and Paddy Gorman, a story corroborated by my father. I was also told by a few people including my father that he was one of best men in the county of Louth to build a dry stone wall and built quite a few, being renowned for it. John never told me but then again he was a gentle and modest man. May his gentle soul Rest In Peace.
