So sorry to hear of the passing of my dear friend John. Deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
We were classmates in 1st Engineering in UCD, where he introduced me to all those wonderful people from Kildare, the Spains, the Noones, the Lunneys, the Moores, and many more, who have remained friends since.
Taking a break from Academia, we shared a bedsit in London in the middle of the Swinging Sixties and the Folk Revival. We had some great times.
In contact occasionally since, always hoping to meet up sometime and catch up with old times.
Sadly time has passed too soon.
Will always be remembered with great affection. Rest in peace.

We have lost a man of great discretion, great dignity and great energy.
As a fellow hack I worked closely with Solid Reliable John for many years in the Press and the Irish Independent .
We spent many interesting hours debating the news of the day together at work and later in some cosy corners of nice pubs.
A gentle man to his fingertips, he never said a bad word unless he had good cause. Calm and smart he always helped, never hindered.
A terrible loss to his family, his siblings and to his many friends. He will rest now in peace and contentment.

Had the privilege of working with John in both the Press and Indo. Top class journalist and an even better person. Could sum anything up in a sentence and never afraid to say what he thought. Great company for an occasional pint when his dry humour came into its own. Condolences to all of his family.
