John (Stan) Rispin

Only heard today of Stan’s sad passing. Sincere sympathy to Grainne and extended family. I have many happy memories of golfing with Stan many years ago. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

I am just catching up with the sad news. Although it is many years since I have met Stan, I still have memories going back to U.C.C and his early times with Grainne.

An erudite and witty man but also a wonderful character, he was full of fun and twinkle and was always a joy to meet. He will be fearfully missed by all who were lucky enough to know him but most especially by his beloved Gráinne, his grá mór and sometimes sparring partner. Stan’s parents were kind and good people and valued friends with mine . I experienced Stan’s gentle humour and kindness in the mid 1950s on visits to his home in Cork .

We have fond memories of Stan at Cork County Cricket Club and Skibbereen Golf Club.
Stan was a great support to me when he was President and I was captain in 1995.
He was great company and was very loyal and much respected by his many friends.

I stared in Hammies as student the same day as Stan started as ateacher I can truly say that no student was ever afraid if him, as he was a lovely kind man, well spoken with colourfull and unusual ties back in the late 60's. Whenever I met him subsequently, he would always stop and chat. May Stan now rest in eternal peace with the Lord.

He impressed me with his two-seat Triumph that day and continued to impress over the following 57 years. A loyal friend, I enjoyed many meals with him, Pat, Tom and Frank in Horse and Jockey when they visited me. May Stan rest in peace.
