Deepest Condolences on the recent passing of John Tom. I met him when I was home two years ago this month at his shop , which was a landmark to the Knockatallon area. Rest In Peace .

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of John Tom. He was such a huge part of our lives growing up in Knockatallon. His shop was the first place we ran to after school and one of the few places to hang out during the school holidays. It is the end of an era. My condolences to all the family.

I have great memories as a kid home from London on summer holidays staying at Granny Gray’s,- we would be at the shop several times a day, mostly for sweets,(only place I seen a pen on a string hanging from the ceiling to keep tabs, and do addition,) and, no set opening hours, 😂 also the hub of activity with all the local kids and loads from the UK, as my cousin Cathy has said, a great man to remember our names, - we could be sitting on the railings waiting sometimes for an hour for him to open !
20 pence went along way then, simple happy times !
