Our first meeting of John was when he arrived in Freshford many years ago and lived with our Uncle and Aunt. A long and happy friendship they all had. RIP John. Fondly remembered

John was my first sgt as student in Kilkenny. A fantastic teacher.. who looked after us all so well. Great memories of going on the beat with John and his red Ever Ready torch. John was a very special man who had time and a kind word for all. He was steadfastly positive, even in the most challenging of situations and times. He had the uncanny ability to always see the bigger picture and place things in context. He spoke freely of his pride of his children, grandchildren and the importance of family. A generation of uilleann pipers and musicians owe a debit to Mary and John's kitchen in Drakelands where they welcomed many for tutelage. John's wisdom, advise and encouragement will be dearly missed. I will always remain deeply grateful to him.

Fondest memories of a self-effacing young man calling for my sister Mary in Sligo during their courtship years. He helped our widowed mother in so many practical ways and they shared interests in antiques, music etc. John was a giver who helped so many and expected nothing. The finest of men, never once complained through some difficult years, a great father who loved his family dearly now finally re-united with Mary. RIP John.
