Dearest Auntie Mary, Eoin, Breen and your family. I feel very sad about the passing of Uncle John and wish I was there with you all to honor is passing and share a lifetime of happy memories. Many family times by the fire or over a cuppa tea with Uncle John entertaining us with his stories, music and oratory. I learnt soo much local and family history from him. He was a musician, poet, historian, keeper of cultural stories, farmer, teacher and family man and of course Auntie Mary you were always by his side with a smile and a prompt, looking beautifully dressed! A legend forever in my memory. On a recent visit home in May 2023 when saying goodbye, he quoted Shakespeare “If we do meet again, why, we shall smile; if not, why then this parting was well made”. I was soo impressed with his intelligence and it has stayed with me. Right back at you dear Uncle John. Rip x your niece Karen

I was greatly saddened to learn of John Twin's passing.

Sincere condolences to John's wife Mary, their sons Eoin, Brian and their families, and to all members of the extended Mc Namara family on your very sad loss.

I first met John Twin many years ago at a late night/not so early morning session in the holiday cottages in Louisbourgh, on the weekend of Féile Chois Cuain. He out played and outlasted those much younger than him on the occasion, and was full of energy. We got talking and it transpired his late brother Pat had been my dentist in Sligo, when as a teenager I was afraid of dentists. Pat was a lovely man and always had tapes of Irish music playing, which was a great distraction from those scary injections!

An inspirational and yet such a modest man, John Twin's lifelong selfless contribution to the preservation and development of our musical heritage, especially on his beloved Achill, is immeasurable.

May John Twin Rest in Eternal Peace and May His Memory be a Blessing on You His Family.
Deepest condolences Mary and all the family on John’s passing, he was an integral part of the community and Noel & I always enjoyed meeting him and having the cupla focal. Mind yourselves and each other.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílís.

I spoke with John only once: a three hour phone conversation during Covid. His passion for Achill, Mayo and the Irish language was infectious. We covered so much ground, he kept saying: 'Caithfidh tú sin a Googláil'. I'm sorry I never had the opportunity to meet him in person. Sincere condolences to his family, friends and neighbours. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Deepest sympathy to Mary and family. John will be remembered as everything that is good about Achll.
Comhbhrón ó chroí le Máire agus an chlann ar fad ar bhás Sheáin. Chuireas aithne ar John Twin don chéad uair i gColáiste Phádraig sa bhliain 1963 agus thuigeas, fiú amháin san am sin, gur duine fíoruasal, fíorcheolmhar, fíor-Ghaelach é. Ba bhreá liom bualadh leis ina dhiaidh sin ag fleadhanna ceoil nó ag an Oireachtas agus bhíodh an-comhrá againn agus go leor le foghlaim uaidh. Fear fial flaithiúil agus cara buan. Guím leaba i measc na naomh air agus ceol i measc na n-aingeal.
Sincere sympathy to all the family on the death of John Twin. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.
