Olivia, words cannot express how shocked and saddened we were to learn of this. You're in our thoughts every day. Feel so lucky to have known John. Sending you and your family comfort and strength.
John and I grew up in Malahide as great friends when we met in Oliver Plunketts. We rode our bikes everywhere together, played football and were always at each other's family homes. Always remembered Ann and Norman being so welcoming to me and my parents were always happy to see John and the whole family. My family used to own the Green Cottage takeaway, and John was always a regular eating our egg fried rice(!)
I left Malahide in 1994 and met up with him only a few times in the past 30 years. The last time I saw him was in 2019 for a coffee break in Dublin. Ever since then we kept in touch by regularly messaging each other - always asking about each others families during lockdown and the birth of our boys and all about parenthood. Despite only meeting him a few times in the last 30 years, each brief meeting has been memorable and that reconnection is always so special.
John was my link to the wonderful childhood I had in Malahide - we laughed, we cried and even cried with laughter(!) In the past couple of months since hearing of John's passing, I am extremely saddened that I won't ever get to contact him again.
My heart goes out to Olivia, Andrew, Rowan, Morgan, Ann, Norman, Niall, Helen and Louis, and the rest of his friends and family. John has clearly touched so many of our hearts throughout his life. He will always be a truly special friend and will be deeply, deeply missed.

I was lucky enough to work with John in the restructuring team in AIB and to contribute to his training when he started the bank. My impression of him was wholly positive- a bright upbeat guy, nice to everyone, with a thirst for knowledge and a really positive attitude to life. I was so shocked and saddened to hear of his untimely death, and the legal community is the worse for it. My thoughts are with his family.
Olivia, Anne, Norman, Helen, Niall and Louis,
We are so sorry for the tragic loss of John. Taken far too soon. Heartbroken for you all and his children. I knew John when he was younger, as I grew up when Helen. If we went on car rally’s he came too. He was such a kind and friendly person.
He would be so proud of you all in how special his funeral was. The love everyone has for John was so present, his life was so full. It was so beautiful to hear all the stories about John.
May he rest in peace.

I had the pleasure of seeing the BnL college gang over the past years through my sister, Nash. John was always so friendly and fun. I ran into him in London years ago when I was having a terrible day at a job interview and that conversation - his genuine friendliness and warmth, turned my day from terrible to just lovely. I know this must be only a tiny drop in the ocean of how he made people feel.
I have been thinking of John’s friends and family. X

I would like to offer my sincere condolences on John's passing to all his family and friends.
Although I only worked with him briefly I had the pleasure to witness his excellent legal brain in action.
I also knew of John through the many cycling races over the years and passed him many a time on the Clontarf seafront where we shared a wave as he went our separate directions.

It was amazing to hear of a man who lived such a full live and one full of love for his wife, his beautiful boys and his family and friends.
He was a true force for good and his passing has made me embrace his lust for life and I want to live my own life better as a fitting tribute to John's legacy.
I hope someday I'll tell your family and friends of the impact you've had on my life even though I barely knew you.
Thank you John for being a wonderful person to so many.

I am so incredibly fond of you John, knowing you through the years from your close friendship with my brother Tim and circle of life loving and good school friends. Remembering you as a mischievous little schoolboy with a shock of enviable curls to the true gentleman you grew to become, and somehow holding on to your trademark twinkling eyes and infectious smile. I always loved being in your company - a blanket of warmth, fun and good conversation, and especially during those youthful years of times out, living life to the full.
One of the biggest achievements in life is how you make others feel, fuelled with positivity and warmth. John your great ability to do so, forever lives on in the hearts of so many.

My deepest sympathies to Olivia & her 3 boys at this awfully sad time. I remember John from our B&L class as a big smiler, all round nice guy and someone who fell in love with Olivia while the rest of us were still figuring life out. I wasn’t pals with John and our paths have not crossed since college, but based on all these tributes it sounds like I missed out on lots of fun and knowing someone who had the important things in life nailed.
