Sincere sympathy to the Carpenter family on the death of John, who served for many years as a director of Inchelwood Owners' Management Company.
Sincere sympathy on John's passing. I have managed the Merchamp complex for a number of years and John contributed greatly as an owner and a Director on the Management Company for over 30 years. May he Rest in Peace.
I wish to extend my deepest condolences to all the Carpenter family on the sad departure of your beloved John. I had the privilege of becoming acquainted with John when I became a member of the LOI panel of referees in 1981. It was very obvious that he was the one whom we should aspire to emulate . Sadly, our subsequent encounters were fairly infrequent, but it was always a pleasure to bump into him occasionally at matches and meetings. May he rest in peace.

Like many other Irish Referees I had the privilege to travel in Europe with John on 4 occasions.all top quality European matches
In fact ,I had a phone conversation with John for 20mins on Friday afternoon last.and he was in very good form, and we reminisced. so , I am truly shocked to hear of his passing.

John and I traveled all over Europe together he was a valued colleague one of the finest referee with FIFA and UEFA he did every important games in Ireland including two FAI Cup finals two European cup semi finals and the only Irish referee to referee a European Cup Final

and fellow referee. William, Lemmy, Nolan shared their summer holidays in Rush, Nth Co Dn.
Great stories and memories ever since. Full sold out matches at Drums Tolka, Rovers Milltown and Bohs Dalyer back in the fifties and sixties. No TV then. Great times. Real men and real players. May he rest in peace.
