My deepest condolences to Mona, Fiona, John, Ciara, Michael, Aoibhínn, James, Saoirse, Rhia, Benny, Eddie, Sheila, Kathi, Susanne, Laura, Ken, Séan and the extended Macken and Brady families on the very sad passing of Johnny, who will be greatly missed and remembered by the very many people who he knew during his lifetime.
To describe Johnny as a gentleman known for his decency and kindness is an understatement as Johnny was a standout likeable community figure in and around his native town of Granard and far beyond.
Johnny and Mona set up a very successful business with their shop and filling station as well as the Boomerang pub down Main Street.
Johnny was also a farmer who took a huge interest in tending to his cattle even in later years after undergoing a serious operation.
I met a very alert Johnny at Donie Reilly's merchant store only a few weeks ago when he drove his Massey Ferguson tractor there to collect bags of beef nuts for his cattle.
Johnny and Mona were heartbroken when they lost their son Jimmy RIP in 1998 when he lost his battle with leukaemia but Johnny in spite of being undoubtedly grief stricken as a result of the huge loss of Jimmy, he managed to keep going not giving up on life.
May his good soul Rest in Perpetual Peace and by the grace of God, he is now happily reunited with his son Jimmy, his daughter Paula (in infancy), his parents Jimmy Snr and Cecilia, brother Jimmy, sister Doris, sister in law, Marie, brother in law, Tommy and nephew Conor.

Johnny Macken will be remembered with fondness for variable reasons, amongst those was his charitible work and participation in the Breffni Challenge for cancer care for a long number of years. He raised incredible amounts of money to help other people in need and arrived in Arva each year with family full of enthusiasm whilst seeking no gratitude.
A very sincere hard working person who cared for family, friends, customers and others with his affable Granard welcome at his ease.
