During his long lifetime Johnny made a significant contribution to the betterment of his community through his activities on behalf of the ITGWU / SIPTU and the credit Union movement..He was a rock of sense and could hold his own with top management and Government Ministers. He had great moral courage and was not afraid to defend his honest views in the face of opposition and criticism. There was no one better to have in your corner in difficult situations as I often experienced over the years. When the work was done Johnny was also great company in a social setting. Good memories of a good man.

I knew Johnny from his involvement with Chapter 10, Irish League of Credit Unions where he was a great participant and a dedicated supporter of the credit union over a long number of years. May your gentle soul Rest in Peace, Johnny.

I remember Johnny as a warrior for the ITGWU/SIPTU workers in Clover and a significant figure in national bargaining in the then strategic bacon sector. His leadership won positive changes in Payment of Wages and Social Welfare legislation. Many owe him much. All strength to his family, comrades and friends

I'm sad to learn of Johnny's passing. He was an icon for workers rights in Waterford for over seventy years. A staunch trade unionist, his contributions to debates and decision making was full of passion but common sense. For those of us who worked with him he was a real working class hero. My deepest sympathy to Johnny's family and to his IT&GWU and SIPTU family. He will be fondly remembered as one of the good guy's.
