It's impossible to put into words the sadness I feel. How your loved ones must miss you. The guy who lit up any and every occasion. From Jericho to the Cowley Road to the King's Head and Bell, to towns and cities across Europe and beyond, you were loved. Not many can say that. My family and I will miss you so much.
Rest in peace my dear friend.

It’s an extraordinary thing for someone to reach the hearts of so many, and to bear witness to so much love in this world. Thank you, Jonnie, for seeing us, for giving steadfast friendship, for your open heart and mind. Holding you and all who loved you in the Light.
Sincere sympathy to Marguerite and all the melia family at this sad time. May jonnie rip
My deepest sympathy to his wife, children and his family – your loss must be overwhelming.
I first got to know Jonnie at our prep school: Cothill. He was older than me, but the school was a small place and everyone knew each other. Jonnie (or Park Ma as he was called) was a popular, well-liked and prominent character at the school. He was handsome, dashing, cheeky, golden and always to be found at the centre of any “ragging” (messing about) that was to be had. He was also very supportive and inclusive to me.
I was lucky to reconnect with him over a decade later when Jonnie played a fundamental role in supporting Abingdon’s very strong twinning activity with his amazing ability to connect people and foster humour across countries.
I treasure that time in my life and Parksie was such a wonderful man to be around. He was an alluring mix of James Bond, the Dude from Big Lebowski and Lawrence of Arabia – his personality had stardust.
He could transform a dull Tuesday night in the pub to a riotous chronicle of stories and laughter. He was great fun but also had a subtle wisdom that could guide and illuminate. Simply - he was one of my favourite people.
As both he and I moved abroad, our chances to meet became less frequent. I fondly remember him coming to stay in Brussels and rare meet ups in Oxford. I was so pleased see him as a father and know that all the wonderful qualities that he had will live on.
Farewell Parksie

Still seems unreal. Will miss you a lot, caro amico mio.
My sincerest condolences to the family and to all of Jonnie’s nearest and dearest. Jonnie really was an extraordinary man and I feel very privileged to have known him. He was generous, kind and supportive to us in many ways and I will always be grateful to him.
Our children spent their early years together and we saw each other almost daily for a number of years whilst in Bahrain. We had so much fun altogether. There were many interesting layers to Jonnie. Life around him was never dull. He could be serious, wholehearted and reflect deeply and was also playful and witty and could make everyone laugh with his wonderful storytelling- many of which still make me smile.
It is tragic and unfair that his life has been cut short so early. May he live on in his beautiful children who meant the world to him, and may his amazing courage, kindness and his ability to forge his own unique path through life be something which can inspire us all.

Sincere condolences to Fiona, Joseph, Georgianna, and all members of the Park and Melia families. Jonnie, you will be much missed. Your talent, commitment, companionship, razor-sharp wit, and inimitable sense of humour, touched the lives of all those you came into contact with, and for that we will be forever grateful. Rest well, my friend, and be at peace.
Sincere condolences to Fiona, Joe, Georgianna, the Park & Melia families (Bert & Teresa). Thinking of you all at this sad time on the loss on Jonnie. May his gentle soul rest in peace

Jonnie was a character! Jonnie owned the room. So many memories. We laughed so much when he came out with us to a local pub in Cowley wearing a work shirt and massive pair of elasticated shorts pulled up to his chest. He went to Truck in a dressing gown - asking 'what's the problem?', discussed footie stats and sketched accurate caricatures. Our condolences to Jonnie's family and friends. RIP Jonnie
I hardly saw Jonnie over the last few years, but whenever Saudi was in the news he came to mind. I always missed him, and I'm incredibly sad that we won't get a chance to catch up.
The last time I heard from him was when he suggested adding rashers of bacon to one of my salads on Facebook this summer. Jonnie was funny. I would say, a comic genius. I will never forget him in a dressing gown setting off fireworks outside my house in Oxford as we ducked under the wall to avoid getting hit as sparks flew this way and that. It wasn't that dangerous, but just dangerous and ridiculous enough to be side-splittingly funny. We were all crying with laughter. There are so many other stories like that.
That sense of humour was one that put the hardships of the world in their place. A sense that, if we can always laugh about things, then nothing could be that bad. I am thankful that I got to share some of that with him.
Jonnie, was also one of the warmest hearted people I knew. It's such a great loss, and my deepest condolences go to his family. Life is short and we must always remember to enjoy what we have.

My condolences to all of Jon's family. I worked with Jon in Saudi Aramco. A lovely person, he had time for everybody.
Such terrible news. I grew up knowing Jon when we first met at a friend's house when we were 16-17 then later during the Sixth Form. Over the past 40 years, I got to know him better and we spent many happy times with the rest of the Abingdon schoolmates. We met for a few beers a few weeks before this happened and he broke the news of his illness. Glad I got to know you Jon Chips and rest in peace mate until we meet again.
I'm sorry for your loss, you and all the family are in my thoughts.
Words can't express how saddened we are to hear of your loss, may the memory of Jonnie bring you comfort and peace

Sincere sympathy to Jonnie family and friends all around the world. Our thoughts are with his fiona, your children and all the Melia family. Rest in peace.
My condolences to Jonnies family and loved ones, Fiona and JoJo and Georgie, Enas / Toots, Katherine, whom I met at the airport recently, his brother who threw me in the pool at Jonnie's 50th and his sister and dad.
This was an extraodinary gentleman, human being, bloke, Jonnie the Ninja biker, friend and geyzer. Erudite, clever, well read, articulate, left wing liberal. He was fun, funny, made you laugh, was chaotic and bonkers. He drove fast, rode faster and often lost his pants and keys when he'd had one too many.
Above all he was kind, welcoming, and warm. He exuded genuine humanity and was liked and loved by pretty much everyone he met. Some people who are lost fade gently away. Jonnie was such a bright ray of sunshine, hes left a chasm in many lives and it hurts. Even though it was short, my goodness he made those 50 something years count.
Miss you and love you mate, thank you for being my friend.

Had the privilege of being a neighbour to Jonnie in Bahrain. What a funny guy and we shared many many days (and evenings) in his company both in and off the compound. He adored his amazing kids and was often seen on nature walks around the place with his kids and all others from the compound in tow
We have many many memories but the ones that spring to mind include parties and Jonnie gladly taking hundreds of photos
Speak Well Buddy

We met in Bahrain and became firm friends. Every dinner party experience with you was always something special and hilarious! You will always be remembered fondly with a special place in our hearts. Rest well.

Ah Jonnie - where do I start?
Visiting you and Ronan in Oxford - the parties, pubs and picnics. You taught me how to play Aunt Sally! Constantly correcting my grammar. 30 years later I still say “ye” instead of “you” even though you insisted on telling me it was “archaic English”.
From Oxford to Saudi - all the laughter and fun, BBQs at Dermot’s, the Thunder Parade, the many nights you and Fiona hosted for friends and family. Fiona’s famous “Mammy Dinners”! Your love of music and photography. Regular trips across the Causeway for breakfasts, brunches and various Balls. Losing the glass sunroof from your Camaro and you, Fi and I rocking up to a party looking like we had just stuck our fingers in an electrical socket after our 100mph journey in 50 degree heat with no roof!
Onto Bahrain and more years of fun and love and laughter - house and pool parties generously hosted by you and Fiona. Paddy’s Day Ball’s and Pool competitions. You both opened your homes and your hearts to us all. You and Fi were our sanctuary and our happy place.
I will miss your laughter, your wit, your wisdom and eloquence. I will miss your generous spirit and friendship.
I wish you could have stayed to see your gorgeous Joe and beautiful Georgie blossom even more as they grow up.
I am heartbroken - for you - you left us way too soon - for Fi and Joe and Georgie who are devastated and will miss you so very much. For your family and many friends around the world who love you and feel your loss so keenly.
Rest easy dear Jonnie - you are much loved and will be sorely missed - but you will never be forgotten.
My heartfelt condolences to Fiona, Joseph and Georgie, the Park family and all Jonnie’s many friends at this heartbreaking time.

I’ll miss our long chats of bikes and cameras, I’ll miss the rides and the beers, but most of all, I’ll miss that wry smile and genuine friendship.

Devastated with the very sad loss of Jonnie who was a friend of 20 years. So kind and generous, hospitable and welcoming, with great wit, turn of phrase and intelligence that made him fascinating and hilarious company. Adding in his sense of mischief, we have treasured memories over the years.
I had the privilege of supporting
Jonnie over the last few months as I work at the hospital where he received his treatment and he was just incredible. His spirit, kindness and courtesy made a lasting impression on everyone who met him. As friends we supported him at every turn, doing our best to make this challenging time as smooth as it could be. We would do it all again and more to have him still with us.
During this tough time he thought of his adored children Joe and Georgie who he was so proud of and did not hesitate to prepare presents and books for them when I was going to Ireland. In turn, he delighted in their letters and presents.
He worked from home, or during his treatment, because he had such pride in his work, a tribute to his strong and unyielding character. His work supported whatever he wanted and were so supportive. This sense of purpose was essential to him. He was an inspiration.
Rest in Peace Jonnie, you were so loved. Thank you for your kindness over the years. Your beautiful kind light lives on in your gorgeous children Joe and Georgie, a testament to you, and their amazing mother, Fiona who adores them.
Sincere condolences to all of Jonnie’s family, friends and loved ones. RIP

Sincere Condolences Fiona, Family & Extended Family..A Very Sad Loss ..May Jonnie Rest In Peace xx
Sending heartfelt condolences and sympathy to Fiona, Joseph, Georgianna and all the family. Jonnie was one in million, a very great friend for over thirty years who will be sorely missed. He was the life and soul of the party on our many nights out in Abingdon and Oxford, with his jokes and banter. He was very supportive and always there to chew the fat and talk about what was on our minds. Rest in peace...mate
I am still in shock at his passing and even though i may not have been his closest friend the time we did have together meant the world to me, he was charming, insightful and enigmatic. I pray for his family and friends as losing a man like Jonnie is a big loss indeed, one that will be felt for a long time to come. Until we meet again my friend.
Jonnie you will be so very missed by so many people. You were a wonderful man who is gone far too soon. Sending love to your family through this heartbreaking time xxx
Sincere condolences to Fiona, Joseph and Georgina along with the Melia and Park families on the passing of Jonnie. A life taken too soon. May he rest in peace.
Rest in peace Jonnie. Sincere condolences to his family.
So sorry to hear of Jonnie's passing. Thinking of you Fiona, Joseph, Georgie and family at this difficult time. We spent many a friday morning in Bahrain where Jonnie's photographic talent was always greatly appreciated. May he rest in peace.
We are saddened and shocked to wake up to the news of the old Saudi Aramcon family Jonnie passing.
Jonnie + Fiona Melia was part of our large and supportive Saudi Arabian expat family.
We started our families at the same time and were Birthing class buddies.
They then helped us settle into life in Bahrain - when we were invited to the best birthday party where Jonnie organised the funnest treasure hunt all over the Al Mahroos Compound, Diraz, for all the kiddos.
I’ll always treasure after Manus’ 1st birthday party, Jonnie handing me a disc of beautiful photos of the event that I had no idea he even took.
He often had his camera in hand. Every Friday morning was spent at Bahrain Rugby Football Club for kids Rugby and Jonnie, generously taking gorgeous photos of our littles training and playing Rugby every year from under 6’s to Under 10s.
We’ll treasure all the memories you helped us to save of our kids, and thank you for your gift, Jonnie.
Pat, and I and the kids are so very sorry for your loss Fiona and Joseph and Georgianna. Gone way too soon, and we’ll be drinking to Jonnie tonight xxx
I wish I had some photos of Jonnie, but he was always behind the camera.
