I send my sincere condolences on the death of Mr Veselsky, an extraordinary and inspiring man who had to remake his life, and did so with grace and success. His story resonates strongly with me, as his family history was very similar to that of my parents, who twice had to flee/emigrate from their beloved Czechoslovakia and settle elsewhere.

Condolences to the family and friends of Josef. I'm so glad he found refuge in Ireland. He clearly had an extremely rich and fulfilling life, despite the traumatic loss of his family when young, and made a big impression on Irish society. May he rest in peace.
Dear Peter and Katushka. I am just so sad to hear that "Uncle Joe" has made his way up above. He was such a wonderful man. An absolute gem, a legend, funny and happy a true Gent. I have many many fond memories of him and all the times the O'Connell's shared with both himself and Kathleen in Dublin, in Belfast, in Wicklow....my favourite house in the world and The Good World restaurant on George's street. A big big loss. He will be sorely missed. My sincere condolences. RIP to a great man

Our thoughts are with you Kate, Peter and extended Veselsky family.

Joe was someone who left a mark on you every time you met him.
I was lucky to know Joe for 20 years, and one thing was always clear. He truly cared about people. No matter who you were, he took a genuine interest, listened, and made you feel valued.

Joe came to several performances of the Slovak Folklore Ensemble Ostroha in Dublin, and it was always a joy to have him there. His presence, smile, and sincere appreciation meant a lot to us. He always carried a piece of Slovakia in his heart.

Even at an age many of us can hardly imagine, he moved through life with optimism and warmth. Joe was kind, curious, full of humour, and had an incredible energy for life

I feel grateful to have known him, and his spirit and legacy will stay with us.

Odpocivaj v pokoji...
My sincere condolences to all of Joe’s family. We used to meet on our regular walks in Blackrock park and from the first day we met it was clear that Joe was a very special man. As I got to know a little of his story those first impressions only grew, such warmth, wisdom, love of life, courage and generosity. It was a privilege to have spent just a little time with him . He was and will remain a total inspiration.
Rest in peace Joe a true Legend in Irish Table Tennis

Dear Joe,

As I write these lines, tears are pressing into my eyes. With your passing, a part of history—and a part of me—has gone as well. I will never forget your beautiful words, saying that talking with me was better than 100 aspirin. You always had a good mood; your optimism was unbelievably contagious.

I loved your visits with your dear wife—we always had such a good time together. In every situation, there was laughter with you. You loved life, and people loved you. Thank you for allowing me to be part of our conversations and visits, and thank you for sharing everything you experienced in your life.

You knew my father’s uncle and so many people who are no longer with us. Thanks to you, I also came to know your daughter Katuška and your grandson Steven. It was a pleasure to know you, and we will never, never forget you.

Greetings from Slovakia, and I believe that one day our souls will meet again. Those who were loved remain in our hearts even after death.

Thank you for everything. R.I.P.

My sincere condolences,

Myself and my family had a unique opportunity to meet and get to know Joe during my Diplomatic mission in Ireland in 2004-2008. We had many memorable moments, interesting conversations and debates over the years. His never ending good mood, energy and enthusiasm was remarkable and something we always remember him by.

Throughout the years he has been a vital link between the Slovak and Irish people. Notably in sports - especially table tennis and football.

Joe, together with his lovely wife Katka, will remain forever in our hearts.

Our deepest condolences to the family.
My family got to know Joe in the latter years if his life in St John’s House, my mum Helen was a very reluctant new resident and it was Joe’s charm that helped the staff get mum out of her bed room in the early weeks. Since then we were always cheered by Joe’s charm and good humour, what a beautiful, gentle man whose life impact had been as broad and it was long. May he rest in peace. He will be missed by many. Sincere condolences to his family, many friends and all who cared for him.

To Peter and Kate and all the Veselsky family. Please accept my most sincere sympathy on the death of your father Joe. He was a wonderful person and a lovely gentleman. I was one of his Sunday friends from Blackrock Park for many years. When we would meet he would doff his hat and kiss the back of my hand and give me a big smile. When I visited him last October he greeted me (without the hat) just as he always had done previously. It was a great privilege to have known such a charismatic and honourable man and I have no doubt that he will be greatly missed by you, his family, and also by all the many people who, like me, enjoyed the pleasure of his company. I shall always remember him with a smile. May Joe Rest in Peace.
My deepest condolences to all in the Veselsky family.

Sincere condolences to the family and friends of Joe. He was a lovely man and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Our connection to Joe started in a Blackrock coffee shop frequented by him. Initial polite 'good mornings' quickly developed into a warm, enduring friendship as Joe had a unique capacity to connect with people. On some Sunday mornings seats near Joe were at a premium as family and friends congregated around him. His enthusiasm for his TCD extra mural classes led me to join him there and I have very fond memories of sitting side by side with him enjoying courses on European and North American history.
It was a supreme privilege to know Joe and to learn of his extraordinary life. And to join in the celebrations of his 100th birthday, both in the Blackrock coffee shop on that birthday morning and at a later gathering arranged by Trinity where Joe was held in the highest regard. Always a delight to be in his gracious company. No one now to kiss my hand...
Farewell dear Joe. You will be forever in our hearts.
