Rest in peace Joe
My sincere condolences to Noreen, Ciara and Ornagh. Joe made such a positive impact on me, in a time when I needed it most. Joe gave me my first job at Ashfield College, watering the plants and cleaning about the place, when I was 13. I spent almost a decade working at Ashfield College and ended up attending the school for 6th year.
Joe regularly checked in with my teachers and my mother and would then relay this feedback to me on what more I should and could be doing at school, much to my frustration at the time!
In these formative years, I learned so much from Joe and looked up to him. I took a real pride in my work and always felt very appreciated. It didn't matter who you were or what position you held, Joe made time for everybody. So sorry for your loss, RIP.

Noreen, Ciara, Ornagh, Pádraig, James, grandchildren and extended family,
My sincere condolences to you and to his many friends on the death of Joe.
I’ve known Joe since we first met in St. Pat’s Drumcondra in 1968 and valued our friendship ever since. Joe enriched the lives of so many people, students and teachers, in Ireland and in The Gambia. Having founded GIVE in 2010 he set in place programmes of professional development for Gambian teachers and compensatory education programmes for young adult students that have grown and continued to the present day. The many Irish teachers who volunteered to join Joe in this work in the Gambia were motivated and inspired by his vision, wisdom and energy. He never sought headlines nor glory though these were richly deserved.
Fear macánta, dícheallach ab ea Joe ná raibh riamh díomhaoin. Praicticiúil I gcónaí.
Slán abhaile Joe agus go lonnra soilse na bhFlaitheas ar d’anam uasal dílis.
