As a child, I thought of Joe as a big hairy giant in a house full of warmth, kindness, love and the smell of baking. The Doherty home was always welcoming and Joe was a gentle, joyful part of it. I will always remember him fondly.

I was shocked and heartbroken to hear of Joe’s sudden passing. Though we lived far apart, our phone calls over the past 30 years were a constant joy — filled with laughter, honesty, and that unmistakable spark Joe brought to every conversation. He had an extraordinary way of making people feel lighter, seen, and truly heard.

To his beloved wife Caroline, his children Mark and Sinéad, and all who knew and loved him — I am so sorry for your loss. Joe was one of a kind. His warmth, humour, and friendship meant more than words can say. He will be remembered with deep affection and missed beyond measure.

Joe will be greatly missed by the many who loved him & had the honour of meeting him. Always there when a lift was needed from a night out in town or from a concert and of course - Sinéad’s favourite pastime, going to the airport! (that time when I forgot my phone and Joe had to drive all the way back to the house and drive us to the airport AGAIN - it was no issue for Joe. One of a kind. Rest easy, Joe ❤️
