On behalf of the President, Cathaoirleach, Board of Directors and Members of the Genealogical Society of Ireland, our sincerest condolences to Carmel and family. Joe was a former Hon. Treasurer of the Society and is very fondly remembered for all of his excellent work during the Society's restoration of the Martello Tower at Seapoint in 2003/4, where during breaks, he would play tunes on the tin whistle - unique sound in that building. RIP

Condolence to the Fitzgerald family , sorry to hear of Joe's passing rip, served with Joe in 2nd & 21bn, A great Soldier and mentor to me, always kept an eye out for me and done his best to keep me on the straight and narrow, bumped into Joe many a time around dunlaoire where he always made time for me ,& we would hav a good oul chat, always grateful to Joe as he gifted me my first bike to get into the Brugha when things were tight. A great memory for me was when Joe won the All Army Golf Comp opened up to all ranks and they had to present Joe with the trophy outside the Officers
Mess as as Officer was expected to win, but we had 1 or 2 to make up for it the ncos Mess, once again a great Person who will be sadly missed..

I remember Joe from school and have fond memories of our time together in the FCA. RIP Joe.
Joe was a recruit with me in the 5th Platoon A Company Cathal Brugha Barracks 1973. A great solider and good friend. I served with Joe overseas and he was always helpful and good company.

I first met Joe on a golf course in Arklow many years ago and many trips to Donegal avery big thanks to Joe John Mac CJ for all the hard work they put into organising the trips for over 35years.so on behalf of our golf society we will miss Joe but our story will go on . So rest in peace Joe and we will keep our society alive.
