I was sad to hear of Joe's death. I remember meeting him in the early days of my service in Collins Bks, Cork in 1978. He was kind and obliging, and fiercely loyal. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

To all of Joe’s family my sincere condolences we had many a good chat when he called into the barracks after he retired from the Defence Forces he will be sadly missed 🙏

To Martina and Lorraine and the extended Ryan family. We will sadly miss Joe Ryan R.I.P. He was posted to the 4 Infantry Battalion, Collins Barracks in 1968, after his initial training in the 12 Battalion. He also served for short periods in the 13, 14 and 15 Battalions. He also served with 42 Infantry Battalion, UNFICYP, Cyprus. Joe was a genuine individual who had a kind word for everyone. He was employed for a long period on the staff of the Officers Mess. He played and contributed to the Collins Pitch and Putt Club. Joe was discharged in 1989 after twenty one years service.
Afterwards, he was active in the O.N.E. and again he made many friends there. Joe could be found at the Veterans House in the Camp Field most mornings. He was religious and a frequent visitor to Saint Brendan’s Church, on the Glen Avenue.
Joe Ryan R.I.P. was a friend to us all. Rest In Peace Joe. You will be fondly remembered. Ar dheis De go raimh a hAnam dilis.
