I was very sad to hear of Mr. Costelloe's passing. He taught me in 3rd and 6th class in St. Brigid's. He was a unique and inspirational teacher and I will never forget him. Encouraging, genuinely interested, always joyful. Always remember his little sayings like," If ye only had the dust off my brains lads!".

A greatfull pupil

Mr. Costello (I still couldn't possibly call him Joe) taught me in 6th Class in St.Brigids in 1999. He was maybe the most important teacher of my life because he was a man who encouraged curiosity and critical thinking. It gave me the encouragement to embrace learning and that has become the hallmark of my life. I am truly sorry to hear of his passing and send my deepest sympathies to his family.

Joesph (Mr.Costelloe) taught me in Saint Brigid's NS in the 70's as a child and to this day I can remember the stories he told (as asides to classes) about many varied topics and themes. They were as diverse as Irish Folklore and Shakespearean tales to odd little Bible stories. Ive never forgotten them and they encouraged me to follow an Artistic career later in life. As I write this Im preparing to take up a position as Lecturer in Limerick School Of Art And Design and I hope I can instil half the inspiration and wonder in my students as he did in me. I offer my sincerest condolences to all his family and friends. Darren.
