Brian and family deepest condolences on loss of your father.R.I.P.
Deepest condolences to Joe's family and deepest respect for Joe, his life and work. A true journalist, a true citizen of Ireland and, indeed, the world. Thank you.
I would like to offer my condolences to the McAnthony family on the sad death of Joe. He was always a quiet hero in my book. He was treated shoddily and paid a heavy price for shining a light on the powerful, the duty of any fine journalist. He was effectively cancelled in Ireland and chose the emigrants route for himself and his family in 1974 where with inventiveness he reestablished a life for him and them.

Very sorry to hear of Joe’s death and would like to offer my condolences. Joe was so generous and helpful on the long road to bring the story of the sweepstakes to television. A terrific journalist and a lovely man.
Grainne and family deepest condolences on your loss.. R.I.P.
Thinking of you all at this difficult time. RIP Joe 🙏
Have so many amazing memories of Joe dating back to when he was dating your mum in Highfield Rd —he was so kind full of fun and yet so focused on justice and the truth.

My sincere condolences on the passing of your beloved dad
I knew Joe back in the 60s and 70s as a neighbour in Coolock Avenue
Joe was a great man a founding member starting a co op to buy our houses.we were all young couples starting out raising our children and Joe was a truly decent kind man. Obviously he moved on but but I remember him with respect and admiration for the support he gave us all. Rest in peace with your beloved wife and son. God speed Joe

I was privileged to work with Joe on the Sunday Independent in the 70's. His expose of the Irish Sweeps scandal was probably the most significant 'scoop' of modern Irish journalism. I have happy memories of later meeting up with Joe in Toronto where he excelled in his chosen craft. My sincere sympathy to his family and friends. - Frank Byrne.
We are very sorry to hear this sad news. Joe was the gentlest of gentlemen, filled with integrity, wit and a vast knowledge bank that he was only too happy to share. Deepest sympathy to his family. Go raibh suaimhneas síoraí air.
So long Joe. Safe journey. I guess you know now. Sympathies to Brian, Dermot and Grainne.

His courage, curiosity, and integrity left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Through his words and his friendship, he enriched the world, and my life, in countless ways.
Though he has left us, his voice, wit, and warmth will echo on and I am grateful for every conversation and every story we shared over the years.
