Joe Rickard and his late wife established the family business at Pier House in Howth. It supported his family over many years. The staff at Pier House were treated well.
Joe was a nice guy, quiet and decent. His pub was the happy gathering place for a generation of people, all of whom will have happy memories of their nights spent there.
A good man who shared with the world his goodness and gentlemanly ways all those who knew him will remember him in friendship.

I only got to know Mr Rickard late in his life, whilst I was working on the roof of McNiells Pub next door a few years ago, thinking to myself, “there’s a great auldfella living on his own and out tending his lovely garden well into his 90s.
