Dear Roisin, my deepest condolences for you and your family on Justin's sudden death. It was so lovely to meet you and Justin at the midsummer event in Zion church, I so much appreciated your warm interaction and comments! In the couple of times I met Justin I was very impressed by his humble and kind manner, a man who's done so much from his faith for the church, for global justice and for creation. God has called him closer now and he's no doubt watching over you all. I'm away from Ireland at the moment but I followed online the beautiful funeral from Shankill, my first parish when I arrived in Ireland. May the memories, prayers and support bring comfort to you and your family; Justin and you all are in my prayers.

Deepest sympathy to you Roisin on the sudden and heartbreaking passing of your beloved Justin and also to Eoin, Michael, Ruth and to your grandchildren and the extended Kilcullen family. Justin was an inspiring and born leader, kind, courageous, compassionate, wise and great company to spend time with.

When I think of Justin I'm always reminded about one of his favourite sayings "Live Simply so that Others can Simply Live". He lived the Gospel message of love and devoted his life to his family, friends, good causes, the poor and marginalised. I had the privilege to travel with Justin to Africa and Asia on many occasions and I feel enormous gratitude for the treasured memories I have of those field visits and more especially learning from the master while I worked in Trocaire.

Please be assured of my prayers in the coming days/weeks.

May you rest in peace dear friend, Justin.

I was deeply shocked to hear of Justin’s passing, having spoken to him only a few weeks ago and seen how much he was enjoying life. I got to know Justin while working with Trócaire and especially enjoyed when he addressed gatherings of staff about Trócaire’s mission. He always related it to the story of a person and, often, the quiver in his voice showed how deeply he felt was the importance of valuing that person’s life and dignity. Sincere sympathy to Róisín and family.

— Louise Hanly (St. Anne’s BOM)
Sincerest condolences to the Kilcullen family. Justin was a remarkable leader in the quest for justice and development. Indeed, I remember fondly during a rebranding of Trócaire in the early noughties, staff remarking that the new tagline should be ‘Working for Justin and Development’ such was his influence. He’d come to the canteen to stuff envelopes with thank you letters for donors, he’d eat his lunch with the staff and really listen to what even the newest intern had to say. And who can forget the tradition he started, way back in Booterstown in the 1990s, of ‘Director’s ice cream day’, when he would buy an ice cream for everyone on the hottest day of the year. Rest in peace, Justin, you have achieved what you had set out to do: The world is indeed a more just world for your having been in it.
— Trish Groves (ex Trócaire)
