We are so sorry to hear his passing. We used to live in Hill Street and would meet and chat regular and he even gave is one of his cds. He was a lovely man. Rest in peace.

I’m so sad to hear of the passing of such a lovely man. I didn’t know him well but he exuded a peacefulness and quiet contentment. I will miss seeing his lovely smile at mass in the friary. May he rest in heavenly peace.

A truly wonderful, creative, meditative soul. He would frequent the Costa I used to work at and would brighten everybody's day whenever he came by. He also taught a handful of musical workshops in the Dundalk Youth Centre with a radiant passion.

Always had a kind word to say to me whenever I saw him. He will be greatly missed and my heart is with his family.

Sending Kalichi's family much comfort and heart blessings at this time I had the honour of being one of those who performed with him in the early days at the Grapevine. We were young and full of hope as he lead us on the path that positive change could happen and even large institutions of oppression as we saw them at the time could be dismantled. The performances he created with music, movement, visual image and the spoken word were a dreamscape of what was possible , a world without greed, a world of heart and inclusion that was present behind the war and conflict. He activated this spirit of the courageous heart in me and it is this heart I still follow in my life.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Kalichi and send my condolences to the family. I use the name Kalichi because that is how he introduced himself back in the mid 1970s when he first arrived into the Grapevine Arts Centre. The name was his metamorphosis, a break with tradition and a new beginning. He had left the USA at a time of great upheaval, dominated by the Vietnam war, coming to Ireland seeking another path. Committed to ideals of peace and positive transformation through creativity, he brought with him a knowledge of eastern philosophy and the practice of Tai Chi, which was new to Ireland, at the time. He was also committed to the idea of dance as transformative. I was lucky enough to participate in his first workshops and productions, which we also toured to various places in Ireland, including Kilkenny and Belfast. And to the Roundhouse in London and the Melkweg in Amsterdam. He also composed and played music throughout his life, with the same aim of transformation. He was a key member of the Grapevine back then, bringing a sense of what is possible when commitment meets creativity, underpinned by the best of human values. I still meet people who were transformed by his workshops. I wish him god speed and thank him for his 'dance, words and soul'.

So sorry to hear this sad news. I’ve not seen Kalichi in many a long year but remember him fondly from our good & creative times in the Grapevine Arts Centre back in the 80’s when he was at the very centre of so many great things going on there. My Uncle Kalichi was a beautiful soul. My sisters and I looked forwarded to his visits to the states growing up. He taught me patience, he taught me kindness… even a little tai chi. I can’t grasp why a beautiful man was taken so soon but I know he is being embraced tightly and lovingly in his next chapter. Love you so much uncle Kalichi. Rescue remedy is by my side. I saw the name Kalichi and sadly said to myself there is only i Kalichi. I attended his classes in O Fiach for years , he was my 1st introduction to Tai chi. He spoke fondly about his 2 children, i offer my sincere condolences to you both. Rest in peace Kalichi .
