Karl Jones

Karl was almost ninety years old, but it still came as a big blow when Cliff called me to relay the news of his passing.I had the pleasure of meeting Karl while we were in Dublin eight years back and even though he was very ill at the time and in great pain he still showed immense courage charm and warmth and this I will always remember.My sincere sympathy to all of the family and May Karl rest in eternal peace.

So sorry to hear the news about Karl. He and I were old friends and colleagues in the Irish Times from the 1970s to the 1990s. We did many enjoyable special supplements together on international themes. My sympathies to all the family.

Even after a long and successful career, it is hard to accept this parting. Future generations will hear great tales, but we have had the privilege of knowing his humour and his kindness, or the magic of working with him. So we are sorrowful, yes, but also very grateful.
