My sincere feelings of sadness to you with losing your mam Kathleen i knew Kathleen from bridge ..she was a special and truly inspirational lady who had so many attributes, friendly, kind, funny, smart ,brave and so much more.she stood out, she had it all..just lovely & will be so missed. i know she is smiling where she is now .Thank you Kathleen.

Mrs Downes, as I knew her growing up, was a neighbour who always made me as a child feel at ease and welcome. I remember her laughing lots and we play lots of 'kerbs' between our two houses. She was often there to throw the ball back with a smile when it went into her garden. More recently, I had such a precious time with her talking about God together and about how God her Father loves her just as she is. The world is a better place because of Kathleen Downes.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have many happy memories of being on the Belltable stage with Kathleen. She was a wonderful woman, and I am privilaged to have known her.

Kathleen (or Mrs. Downes, as I have always called her in my inner head) will forever be part of Gurteen Gardens, along with my fun memories of Dessie ( aka Mr. Downes) from my childhood. Be it a wave or a smile, always with grace; or two rings on the phone and we open the door to see which neighbour was at their door. Or the more stand-out occasions such as the Christmas Morning Drinks, or the more poignant "Should auld acquaintance be forgot" on New Year's Eve. Always with grace.
