I loved Kathleen's stories and the way she told them, her wry sense of humour and her laugh. I remember her with her disposable cameras and her photos, her Christmas decorations and her plants. She had an incredible memory. She could remember the dates and details of my parents' and aunts' weddings – as well as which ones she had or hadn't been invited to – and the number plates of my grandfather's cars. She told me about her mother making rhubarb wine and the time one of the bottles exploded; she told me about having to whisper, as a child, while the dough for the yeast bread was rising so as not to spoil the rise; she told me about the people who once lived on the road – the Egans, the Barrys and so on – and what this vibrant little community used to be like. She told me about the days when they used to go into town on the ass and cart and the time when the house first got electricity. I remember the slow ceremony of tea-making when I called to the house and our many conversations. She is a huge loss to the Mail Road. I will miss her and treasure my many good memories of her.

Our sympathies to Jimmy and the Duggan family. Kathleen was the most wonderful person. She was a lifelong neighbour and a great friend. She always brought a smile and laughter with her. She was extraordinary in the very very best of ways. Her memory of times past was amazing. Her stories were a joy to listen to. She loved to take photographs and she saw the world through a very interesting lense. We are so grateful for having known you Kathleen and we will all miss you terribly. Rest in peace now with all your friends who have gone before you and remember to keep an eye on us too xxx
