firstly I would like to thank Kathleen for the love she gave me. Kathleen was everything to me , granny, mother, sister and best friend. She taught me a lot especially encouraging my kids about education. She taught me how to cook good meals. She was the best at making scrubled eggs. She was very smart inside and out an intelligent woman. I miss Kathleen every day. We thank God for the life she had. To all the the Houlahan family my deepest condolences . Thank you all for the love . kindness and all the support you all gave me. My heart is broken. She will be looking after you all from heaven. Kathleen May you continue to rest in peace.

I was very sorry to hear of Kathleen's passing. I had the privilege of getting to know her when I started to work in Coolock. She was truly one of the most kind-hearted and intelligent people I’ve met. She attended my pharmacy since I opened in 2008 and has stayed with us ever since. The staff loved and respected her so much.

She carried herself with such grace, it was always a pleasure to talk to her. She spoke so fondly of all her children and grand children - I know all who loved her will miss her greatly.

What a wonderful teacher and lover of poetry. To this day I quote lines that I was taught 50 years ago. I got a love of theatre from this woman and a confidence to speak in public. God bless you Mrs Houlahan.

We all know your very proud of your Irish heritage in Birmingham and in Ireland and no doubt your grandmother had a big part to play. Dear Mícheál, Yvonne, Diarmuid, Pádraig, Deirdre and Bláithín... I am so sorry for your loss and relate to the strange emptiness you must be feeling at this time. Also I'm happy for your dear mam who, after an incredibly full and fulfilling life has achieved her final release. When I first met Kathleen in 1989 (at Mícheál's and my graduation from Catholic Univerisity in DC) I was awed by her fortitude in her Faith and her beliefs. That awe has developed over the years into admiration for her courage to change and adapt her ideas with an open mind. From what I understand Kathleen had a great sense of humor, incredible strength, and a single-minded focus to provide for her children what she felt were the important things. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you navigate through the events of the coming week, and as you begin this new chapter without your one and only dear mam!

Over the years that I have known Micheal, and been introduced to all of you, I learned that your mother was the true matriarch of your family. You revered her knowledge and her influence in all of your lives and your careers. You are so fortunate to have been the offspring of such a strong and positive mother. I know you will miss her, but I know you will carry her love and memory in your hearts. She lived a long and productive life and has earned her place among the angels. Dear Micheál and all the Houlahans,

I was heartbroken to hear of Kathleen's passing. It seems hard to believe that I've known Micheál and so many of you since 1986...or was it 85?...

Kathleen was a remarkable woman, so smart and clearly, full of strength. Raising six children with such purpose while teaching full time is no small feat. For me, the love and pride she had for all her family were always evident. The Houlahans are the most distinguished family I know. I don't think I'll ever be able to have a meal at the Shelbourne without seeing her at the table with us. I truly believe she'll always be with us.

Mrs Houlahan was my teacher in St Brigids girls school over 55 years ago , but I always remember how kind and patient she was , Rest in Peace

Mrs Houlahan was my teacher when I was one of more than 50 pupils in 1st and then 2nd Class. Learning to write using pen and ink, Gaeilge, and learning how to knit feature prominently in my memories of those days.
