Kathleen O'Donoghue

I am writing on behalf of my sister Ros, who developed motor neuron disease 2 years ago and is no longer able to move her arms nor speak. Some time ago Ros described Kathleen as her closest friend, and I believe they met when their children Neiv and Rohan, and Eleni were in primary school together. Kathleen has been an amazingly supportive friend to Ros during 2022 and 2023, inviting her to her singing group concerts, sharing in their birthday parties and visiting her fortnightly to bring light and happiness into Ros's world. It was shocking to hear of Kathleen's illness and quick demise, and Ros was so sad that she could not visit Kathleen, nor even speak with her to help support her in return during 2024. A huge hole has been left in our lives, as it has in many, many others. Our hearts are filled with love and condolences for Kathleen's family.

Sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Kathleen who was a fearsome force in our community and a beloved friend of Roslyn Harman, my friend. I knew Kathleen through Ros whose life was enriched through knowing Kathleen for many years. They shared warm and wild times together and lit up the room when they were together!

What sadness envelops me upon hearing of Kathleen‘s passing…

Having met her through music and friends I was always overjoyed to see her. She was illuminated from within - her smile and kindness lightened every heart. It is hard to imagine that we shall no longer be able to bathe in her appreciation for life in itself.

…but just imagine how much joy she will bring to the place of places where she will wander from now on…

Sadness reins in my heart and yet it already makes me smile to imagine her in a place of such beauty…

Finding it hard to believe this sad news! Kathleen's lively, positive energy and zest for life was infectious. Life was always fun when you spent time with her and I will always be proud to call her my friend. Kathleen was a feisty, principled woman who had a wicked sense of fun and a string commitment to fairness and equality. We laughed and argued a lot through college and early years as newly qualified teachers. Her family and friends meant everything to her. She will be sorely missed.
