Dear David and Theresa,
We were devastated to hear of the sudden and tragic death of your beautiful daughter Katie. We know that words cannot heal your pain, but please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Although we realize that you will never truly recover from this tragedy, as no parent ever does, we can only hope that you will eventually find some comfort in your fond memories of her. We're sorry that we cannot be with you this coming Saturday, but we'll be with you in spirit, and we offer you our sincerest condolensces.

We were privileged to be able to attend Katie's final farewell ceremony in France in the church in Sophia, beside where she went to school. Teresa, David and Ciaran were monumental in the way they held the ceremony together by the absolute dignity of their sorrow.
Katie got such a beautiful send-off from the hundreds of schoolfriends that packed the church. In tribute to her, hundreds of the teenagers were dressed in green, and hundreds of candles were laid in front of her portrait on the altar. I think I will always remember it as the most moving and dignified ceremony I have ever attended.
Katie's Dad and brother Ciaran spoke to the teenagers with so many true and heartfelt words. David's talk with moments of gravity and lightness must have come from deep within. He talked to her pals with such insight and understanding of pain. May this inner strength that the three of you showed, continue to guide you in your pain.
We will always be there for you when you need our help.
