A font of humour and wisdom and love, a spirit of laughs and kindness. An inspiration and a survivor. There was always such a lovely welcome at your house. I will always remember your smile and your laugh
Catherine? Such a beautiful name. I didn’t know.
Last time I met her, 2015, maybe, was in the lane between the Cherry Tree and Cherryfield.
We’d a brief conversation. She told me I never stood a chance with Deirdre.
I was then in my 60’s and we’d known each other for generations.
We laughed.
As we always did with Mrs McLoughlin.
Well done Kay!
Colin.

Part Two:
Unfortunately you won’t get to meet your 9th great grand-child but I’m so happy I could share the news with you (even though you didn’t believe me and thought it was Steven who was having a baby) but you were delighted. Even giving me pregnancy advice a few days ago.
You will be greatly missed but will continue to live on in our lives through our memories… and of course your fruitcake recipe (even though like you, every time I make it – it turns out different).

I will miss your infectious laugh

Part One;
Dearest Nana, it was a privilege to have you in our lives and to have you for as long as we did. Memories of you which I will always remember are;
• Your seat in the kitchen & lounge room – they were your throne
• No one was immune from your quick wit & slagging
• Going with you to SuperValu & walking up & down to see who was working on the registers so you could have a chat
• You made sure everyone was ok, especially when eating. At breakfast if I was having toast you would say ‘do you want bran, how about fruit, I’ll make you a fry, what about an egg’ & yet you would be having brown bread, butter & marmalade.
• You taught Daniel the delicious combination of fruit cake & butter
• When we got engaged in Dublin, Daniel had not prewarned any of you. After he proposed we came home but could not say anything as you were watching your soapies. We sat there in the kitchen nervously eating our dinner until you finally came in. When we told you, your first response was ‘ah you’re pulling me leg’. Carol arrived & you told her – without a second thought the two of you like professional stage performers started singing ‘Congratulations’ by Cliff Richard & dancing in the kitchen. Later in the evening laughing you said to me ‘that’s grand you’re leaving tomorrow, now I don’t have to take you for dinner but I’ll give you a choc top to celebrate’
Please accept our sincere condolences to you all.
Kay was a wonderful friend to Mam and I’m sure Sheila will have the welcome mat out for her best friend
