Sincere condolences to the Blackmore family on the death of Ken. He had to deal with a least one Sweetnam brother during his entire time at Sligo Grammar School. I have very fond memories of Ken from my time there, a great teacher and inspirational Headmaster who showed kindness and understanding.
To all the Blackmore family we send our sympathy. Ken made such valuable contributions in his journey through life. His foot print stays with all who he met.Roger fondly remembers his encouragement as a school boy in Y.M.C.A

Kenny, so very sorry to learn of your Dad’s passing. Your mum and dad were a winning team and in turn made Wesley College the great school that it is. The Blackmore legacy will remain for a long time to come. You and your brothers deserve to feel very proud.
To the Blackmore Family

My deepest condolences to you following the passing of Ken.

He taught me many a hockey lesson when I had the privilege to play against YM for Glenanne.

Ken and Joan, you enriched so much the years I spent in Wesley and I have so much to thank you for, not least the great memories of your example, advice and encouragement to me personally but also to Joy and Anna who both benefitted so much from the caring input you both had in their lives. My condolences to all the family.
Thinking of Ken & Joan Blackmore, who were such a support to our Mum, Ruth Henderson. They were life long friends who i know my mother treasured deeply. Thinking of their wonderful sons and grandchildren during this difficult time. Your Dad was a legend and will live on through all our memories. I know my Mum would send her love to you all. Thinking of you. Diane Henderson
Sincere sympathy to Graeme.,Malcolm.,Robert.,Neil.,Kenneth & families. I had the privilege to be chosen as PE teacher at Sligo Grammar in the mid 70’s. Mr Blackmore was one of life’s great Headmasters, always a smile on his face and a way of making you laugh and feel better about things. I have so many happy sporting memories of my time at the Grammar…especially on the hockey field, staff X1 v 1stX1 !! most memorable were the times spent in the Blackmore household planning how to outplay the opposition for the big prize !! What a great team—-Ken & Joan, now in their Eternal Home but will never be forgotten.
Our sincere sympathies to the Blackmore family on your Dad's passing. Many wonderful memories in this household of "The Wesley Days" and all those hockey matches. You are in our thoughts at this sad time.

So sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. Great memories of both your Mum and Dad in Wesley. Thinking of you all and your families at this sad time.
Deepest sympathy to the Blackmore family on the passing of your dear dad. Take comfort in the legacy he and your mum have left to all who remain. They were truly inspirational and l have such fond memories of both of them during my Wesley school days! They had such zest for life, cared deeply for everybody and encouraged us all to strive for greatness, especially on the hockey pitch! The positive influence they had on the many lives they touched is immeasurable.
About 14 years ago my path crossed with your dad 's life again when we sat on on an interview panel together for a teacher appointment in our school. Even in his retirement he was willing to give his time to help with education and his intuition and wisdom was much appreciated by me at the time.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all as you come to terms with your loss.
I vividly remember my first day as a boarder at SGS in 1976 and being greeted by Ken and our new 'mother' Ma Blackmore. Forever grateful to Ken and Joan for such a good start in life.

A beautiful service for Ken - a true legend of YMCA Hockey Club and Wesley college. Reunited with Joan, our thoughts and prayers are with them both and their extended family.

My sincerest condolences to all the Blackmore Family on Mr Blackmore’s passing. I have many great memories of my Principal Mr Blackmore. My conversations with him over the years always involved hockey or Maths, always with humour mixed in and always with the twinkle in his eye. I am so grateful for all that he and Mrs Blackmore did for the school that I now work in. The current Principal Mr Woods spoke to the whole school this morning and showed us some iconic pictures of Mr Blackmore around the campus. Hockey stick in hand in many, in assembly, with Mrs Blackmore and more recently at the opening of the Blackmore Pavilion. Thank you Mr Blackmore for great memories!.
To Kenny & all of the Blackmore family. My sincere sympathies on the passing of your dad. My prayers and thoughts are with you all.

Mr Blackmore was a fabulous inspiration to many generations of Wesley pupils in their academic pursuits, sporting achievements and musical abilities in the school. Both he and Joan always had time to give helpful advice to Wesley pupils in academic and personal matters and look after their physical and spiritual well-being. My condolences go out to the five Blackmore boys and their extended families at this very difficult time. I hope that both he and Joan rest together in peace after their long and very eventful lives.

I was very sad to hear that Ken Blackmore had died and would like to send my deepest sympathy to his family. He was my headmaster in Sligo Grammar and High School and he and his wife Joan were a wonderful team. Many years and four sons later, Jeff and I decided to send them to Wesley College, mainly because of my huge respect for them both. We were not disappointed. I am only sorry I didn’t see them in later years. God speed and may you rest in peace.
Sincere condolences to all the Blackmore family on the loss of your wonderful Dad. I have such fond memories of school especially on the hockey pitch where Mr and Mrs Blackmore were in their element. Many thanks for all the wonderful times. United again may they rest in peace.

Fondly remembered & our deepest sympathies to Graeme, Malcom, Robert, Neil, Kenneth & families. God Bless 🌻
Mr Blackmore hired me in 1993 after a very short interview where he said “if Frank Hughes thinks you are right for the job, you are hired”! When I got married two years later he presented me with my wedding gift saying “she is finally getting married”! This was said with a big grin as I was 24! I wasn’t sporty so didn’t have the same interactions others may have had but I will remember with great fondness his cheery nature, wit and humour. I was very lucky to have worked for him. Sincere condolences to all of his family on his passing.
Sincere Condolences to the Blackmore Boys, their partners and children and extended families on Ken’s passing.
We have great memories of the arrival of Joan and Ken

The torch has been handed on to your generation.

Graeme, Malcolm, Robert, Neil and Kenny - heartfelt sympathy for the death of your dad.
I was in 2nd year when the Blackmore clan descended on Wesley & was a bit scared of the KGB's stern demeanour until he cracked his wonderful grin! I learnt much from him and Joan both practical (hockey) and abstract (lessons on life) and remember him fondly. Best wishes to you all.
Sincere condolences to the Blackmore family. Ken and Joan Blackmore were extremely good to me when I went to board in Sligo Grammar School at the age of nine. I have never forgotten their kindness and support I was treated as one of the family. Ken was a great Headmaster knew all his pupils by name & would interact with them all personally. I have such fond memories of him & Joan. Maeve (Jones Henry)
We knew Ken and Joan in our time as Wesley College parents and later in their time as loyal and committed parishioners of Castlemacadam Parish, Avoca. They rightly deserved the highest respect from students, parents and parishioners for their contribution to school and, in their retirement, parish life in Castlemacadam. May Ken and Joan rest in peace.
Sincere sympathy to the Blackmore family on the loss of "Mr Blackmore", as he was known to us in Sligo Grammar School. A truly inspirational man. Kind and caring but firm. Memories of carrying him around a pitch in Galway after we won the Connacht Cup in hockey. His kindness - he took a detour on our way home so that my sister and I could show the cup to my parents (we being boarders). So many good memories of fun. Punishments for misdemeanors even turned into fun and more importantly, weren't passed on to our parents.
He made my time in boarding school educational, in the true sense of the word.
May he rest in peace.
A gifted teacher and a true gentleman, we were so fortunate to have Mr. Blackmore as principal in Wesley. Condolences to his sons and their families.
Sincere sympathies to the extended Blackmore family & friends on the sad passing of Ken. A Gentleman that played with a straight bat, and a sense of humour. May he Rest in Peace.

Sincere sympathy to the Blackmore family on the passing to glory of Ken. I have fond memories of Ken from Sligo long ago, later in Wesley, and finally occasionally for coffee in Wicklow Town in his early retirement. " ... and whoever lives by believing in me shall never die. (John 11: 26).
Sincere condolences to all of the Blackmores and their families . I will always have such fond memories of Mr Blackmore both in school and on the hockey pitch . Joan was so welcoming to us boarders too and added that homely touch . Wesley was very lucky to have had them both for so many years .

Sincere condolences, Graeme, Malcolm, Robert, Neil and Kenny on the passing of your dear Dad. We hold many fond memories of Wesley. Also remembering your Mum, Joan whom I (Helen) knew as Joan Matthews way back, along with her friend Avril O’Callaghan in the dim and distant past in the YW!
Sincere condolences to the Blackmore family on the passing of Ken. Our thoughts are with you at this very hard time.
Very sorry to hear of Ken's passing. As some have mentioned he & Joan were a fabulous double act during their time in Wesley who positively influenced a generation (or more) of those who passed through the school. Sending on our sincere condolences to his family.
Sincere condolences to the Blackmore family. "KGB" and Joan gave me great encouragement both in sport and academically during my time at Wesley. I remember his grammar classes in first year during the 80s which I learned later gave him the opportunity to become familiar with everyone's name (and disposition) early on in their Wesley career. I suspect that the practice for day pupils to queue after assembly to present their excuses to him directly for any absences that week had the same thinking behind it.
