I worked with Kevin at St. Columba’s R.C. Boys School in Bexleyheath, where he was Head of Modern Languages, until he retired. He was an extremely intelligent man, with a wicked sense of humour. Also, a gifted musician – he played piano at assemblies and the organ at St. Stephen’s Church on Sundays. He had an excellent voice and also played the piano accordion, I believe.
Kevin came on several school journeys, to Dieppe, Le Touquet and Sangatte in France and Bredene in Belgium, if my memory serves me correctly, translating impeccably when required. He also organized a trip to the Black Forest in Germany, where I also accompanied him. We shared a common interest in Folk Music, which Kevin had an encyclopedic knowledge of – especially Irish folk music. He kindly wrote out all the words to ‘The Star of County Down’, for me as I was trying to learn the song. He also introduced me to some ‘Roots’ groups like Ali Farke Toure and Salif Keita, whom I had never heard of. Kevin was a man of many, many talents, the likes of which one rarely has the privilege, to have known. He will be sadly missed.

I am a former member of Kerry Choral Union, this is how I knew Kevin. I remember him with fondness, for his good humour, and wit. On our tour of Italy, he had us fully entertained, telling funny stories, and writing numerous poems about our trip. A lovely man. R.I.P.
