Kevin Smith

On this day the 8th of February it would have been Kevin's 50th Birthday. What a remarkable life he led to have fitted so much into the years we were grateful enough to have him with us. Kevin is so missed by so many and his passing leaves a massive void in the lives of his family. Until we all meet again.

As we approach Kevin's Months Memory Mass we at Crosserlough GAC are still attempting to come to the realisation that the brilliant person that was Kevin Smith will no longer be seen or heard in our Clubrooms and in the Community. Kev, you were an inspiration to us all. Your work ethic, drive and determination were second to none. Through all your hard work you have left us with a club and community to be proud off. I was truly shocked to just hear of the sad passing of Kevin. I knew him through the National Grid Safety Working Group with Irish Water, he was a true gentleman, an inspiration and great motivator and above all, just great craic. My deepest condolences to his family.

Dear Olivia and all of Kevin’s family; my most sincere sympathy on losing Kevin so tragically and so young.

Kevin and I were classmates in Queen’s and travelled up and down together each week with 2 other classmates. He was a wonderful chap and was loved and admired by all in Queen’s, his classmates and the lecturers. He was kind, modest, helpful, hardworking, conscientious and appeared to always be calm and unflappable.

We kept in touch and met up regularly in the years after Queen’s but bit by bit lost direct contact, although a mutual friend used to keep me up to date on how he was doing.

I was stunned to learn of his untimely passing but felt proud to have known him when I heard of how his life continued in the same vein as his college days - always on hand to help others. What a great guy and a loss to his community and civil engineering.

I’m sure you have endless happy memories and I hope these will give you some comfort in the days ahead.

May he rest in peace.

My involvement with Kevin, was through the three All-Ireland Fleadhanna in Cavan 2010/11/12. Whether it was at the monthly FEC meetings from 2009 onwards, or on the ground, during the 3 fleadhanna, Kevin was an inspiration to all who had the honour to work alongside him.

As for the humour, wit and slagging etc, I will simply say, it was legendary. Going to Cavan was always a great pleasure.
