I’ve only just heard about the passing of a true legend of rush, the late Kevin Thorp. RIP Kevin, a beautiful and true gentleman, who was a mine of information, who was a real spirit of our community for many, many years. He published the Rush Community News for many years, and in a time before social media and fast information, it was a great source of information for our lovely town, and when one of the better known people of our town passed away, he always wrote a lovely piece about them in the Community News. Well now it’s your turn to be the headline news Kevin, and no one deserves it more. I hope you write many an article on that typewriter in the sky. My deepest condolences to to his family, Especially his lovely wife Mary. You’ll be sadly missed by many Kevin. RIP.
Thank you all so much for your very kind words. Sharon Campbell Mr. Thorp would have been so proud to read your message, Thank you. He loved teaching and was one of those lucky people who managed to work at a job he loved doing. Best wishes John Thorp
Over the last seven or eight years I have not only looked forward to the overseas BPS for its notes from all over but most especially for the always witty and urbane forward from Kevin, not to mention the occasional personal notes that would come out of the blue just seeing how things were around here. A curious and kind man. I will miss him very much.
Well I am so glad Kevin and I finally got to meet in person last June. We had developed a great friendship through our mutual interests in the disappearing art of letterpress printing, and through many emails and occasional phone calls we explored our shared sense of humour and perspectives on the world. He was a very wise man with an encyclopedic knowledge of many varied subjects. He had some wonderfully creative suggestions on how to solve Brexit and the US presidency!
Our best wishes go out to Mary, Bernard and John as they adapt to this new life with memories of a legendary husband and father.
I shall be expecting a well-produced newsletter from St Peter's Printshop during the next few months!
Paul.
So sorry to hear of Kevin's passing. He was a regular visitor to our house in Skerries and a good friend to my late father Maurice. A lovely kind and funny man, my condolences to Mary, John and Bernard. May Kevin rest in peace

Recording heritage with Kevin was a absolute joy, his legacy is the contribution he added to the knowledge of local and Irish heritage, a gift he shared with us in the soft and gentle tones of the kindly professional man he was, a man that his wife Mary and sons can be rightly proud of.
I am saddened to hear of the passing of the best Teacher who has ever thought me. Mr Thorpe has and will always have a special place in my heart. A kind man who always had great time for his students. He made our childhood school days great that when he thought me i only ever had 7 days sick in 4 years. Rest in peace Mr Thorpe.
