It came as a great shock to hear of Jack's passing. I had contact with Jack on-and-off over the years, including when I was researching the history of social partnership, a subject on which Jack himself won a PhD for an outstanding thesis 25 years ago! I also worked with him on the ILHS conference last year and was discussing with him publishing a book through Umskin, to which he was very open. A marvellous, warm and highly intelligent man, I extend my condolences to all his family and wide circle of friends. I was privileged to be able to watch Jack's very moving funeral service as it was live-streamed. May he rest in peace.
I have only just now heard of the untimely death of Jack McGinley.
Jack and I soldiered together on the committee of the No. 15 Branch of the Workers' Union of Ireland in the '70's and early 80's. I was delighted to come across him again more recently in Trinity College. Everything that has been written about him by so many is so true. He was a man of great vision and great commitment.
I send my condolences to you Helen and Jack's family. He will be sorely missed.

Jack’s sudden and unexpected death has come as an enormous shock to his many friends and comrades in the wider trade union movement. Jack was a formidable union representative and was highly respected by his peers. Jack played a very important role in Congress as the Chair of the Standing Orders Committee. Our sincere condolences to Helen and family on Jack's sudden death. I have known Jack for a long time in Trinity College and the FWUI and SIPTU and more recently in the Irish Labour History Society and Uniskin Press. He made his mark in everything he was involved with and will be greatly missed. Jack and Ita Gannon
Dear Helen and relatives and family friends of Jack,
It was such a shock to hear of Jack's sudden passing. He was always so full of life, so passionate about it, so empathetic with everyone he met. He was responsible for recruiting me into the ILHS and modest and all that my involvement has been, it was totally the result of Jack's kindness and enthusiasm.
He was a guide and mentor. Our interaction with the 50th anniversary ILHS conference last year was but one example of his brilliance in managing all the intricacies and minutiae of organisation on such a vast scale and of his conviction that the cause of Labour is Ireland's cause.
We had talked about visiting the roof of Liberty Hall (the original of which my maternal grandfather, volunteer no.79 in the Irish Citizen Army, had once stood upon, rifle in hand) to mark the success of the conference. Alas, that was not to be.
I shall miss him greatly; his legacy will cast a very long shadow. Ar dheis Dé go raibh an anam, dilis. May he rest in peace at God's right hand.

I salute the memory of a true stalwart of the Irish Labour & Trade Union Movement. Jack was such a powerhouse, academically and as an activist on the ground, energetically functioning on so many fronts on behalf of working people. He toiled endlessly in pursuit of a better fairer world. He always made a difference in every struggle he in which engaged and was continuing to do until the very end. We will all miss him greatly. Sincere condolences to Helen and all the family. In solidarity

So very sorry to hear this horrible news. Sincerest condolences to Helen and all his family and so many friends. A fellow pupil, I fondly remember his arrival on to the CBS Westland Row PPU committee when he shook the lethargy, banished the nonsense and achieved great and untold support for his Alma Mater.
He was an oracle of information, with complete integrity and fairness. His devotion to honesty was outstanding. Seems wrong to speak of Jack in the past tense.
He will be missed.

From Doyles to the Pavilion Bar and from Chaplins to Liberty Hall Jack always lit up the room with his prescence and was the life and soul of all these gatherings.

Marie, sincere sympathies to you and all the family from the members of Newlands and your work colleagues. We were all very sorry to hear of the passing of your brother Jack. May he Rest In Peace
My sincere condolences to Helen and the McGinley family. Jack made an immense contribution to SIPTU and the wider Labour Movement. What marked Jack out was he always fearlessly took, what he believed was, the 'right' position no matter how unpopular that may have been. I always valued his opinion and counsel. He is a terrible loss to the movement and the Cuban people have lost a trusted ally and friend. 'Bury him down in yon green garden with union men (and women) on every side'.
