We met her so many times over the last 37 years and she was always such a lovely lady, so gentle and kind. She will be greatly missed by you all.

Dear Maria and family. We are both so sorry for the devastating loss of your beautiful mam Kitty may her lovely soul rest in eternal peace.

As a child, I smelt the fresh paint of the originally configured Oakdown Road, its cul-de-sac, bungalow section, protected, at its southern end, by a line of trees. With my elder brother and the few other children of the road, I played in the butter-cupped, meadow immediately to the south, under the watchful eye of contentedly grazing cattle.

To our sorrow, this idyllic, pastoral setting soon fell foul of men with broad country accents digging foundations for the two-storey houses and for the Church of the Good Shepherd, where Kitty worshipped and will shortly pay her last visit. However, our new neighbours quickly assimilated themselves into the fabric of our little community, our grudging initial welcome gradually yielding to a hearty one, Kitty’s warm, gentle smile helping to win us over.
