Ah, Larry! He had one of the drollest senses of humor of anyone I’ve met. He could be quiet for hours and then just come out with a gem of a comment that would crack me up. Although I didn’t see him much since moving to the US, whenever I did I enjoyed remaking his acquaintance, and having a bit of a laugh with him, even when times were hard. As a teen I spent a lot of time with Larry and my dear Aunt and Godmother Theresa. I remember spending a summer in Meath painting Larry’s giant garage, which was full of bits and pieces of cars in various states of disassembly. Larry took me for my first pint, took me to my first motor race at Mondelo Park, and introduced me to Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band! Textbook cool uncle behaviour! I remember also looking forward to his trips down to Cork because he drove one of those mad Citroen cars that sank down when you turned them off! I always felt special being driven around in that car. He was a great character and he’ll surely be missed.
