Deepest sympathy to Ellie and the Keating family. I studied and worked with Larry back in the early ‘70s, monitoring air pollution all over the City. He was great company, always up for a bit of fun. He’ll be sorely missed!

As I posted earlier Larry was a fantasic teacher and gentleman. I recall now our textbook was Physics for Today and Tomorrow, which Larry used to refer to as Physics for Today, Tomorrow and the Afterlife. Hope that still applies ! RIP

My deepest sympathies to the Keating family on the passing of Larry. As a student of his in the 90s, I can’t overstate the positive influence and role model he was during those years in Endas. Larry was always ahead of the curve. He noticed and nurtured my interest in technology back when computers were nowhere near as ubiquitous as they are today. I remember so many times in the computer lab he would ask a question to spark curiosity and be there with a smile and a wink when you’d figure it out. I; like so many others he taught went on to degrees and careers in STEM and will credit the start he gave us all those years ago. May he rest in peace.

Larry was a beloved Uncle, the key cog to the Keating’s of Ireland and The United States. He wears always smiling and welcoming. He went out of his way to make you comfortable and hydrated! He will be greatly missed.

I feel very fortunate to have known Larry both as a neighbour, from when I was a small lad in Tirellan Heights, and then through to having him as my physics and maths teacher in Coláiste Éinde. He was a genius of a man and an absolutely fantastic teacher. He was able to inspire a love of his subjects in his pupils and he helped us all to get the absolute most out of ourselves when it came to our exams. Aside from what we learned about the actual subjects themselves, the greatest lesson he always imparted was that of the importance and value of having a good work ethic. He managed to achieve all of this, however, with no small amount of wit and humour. My friends and I who were in his class often still recall so many funny moments and sayings he used to have. It was a pleasure and privilege to have been in his class. I can honestly say that outside of members of my own family, he was the person who had the greatest influence and impact on me, and for that, I will never forget him. Deepest condolences to the whole family. Larry was a wonderful character and a great teacher, whether he was teaching physics, maths or computers - he seemed to cover everything and did it all with great ease, such was his ability. He brought great humour and light heartedness to the classroom. "Marks will be as scarce as hens teeth!!" He left a truly positive mark on generations of students, in tough subjects.

For all the times Larry said "It can't be done!" it most certainly could be done because Larry always came through with getting it done!

I'll especially remember Larry as a very kind, humorous and patient man, who always indulged my various requests, particularly as an overly enthusiastic newly qualified teacher.

I loved the post-school day wind down chats with Larry over cups of tea and Maura's stash of Cadbury snack chocolate biscuits.

I knew you as a kind man, Larry. Thank you for always being kind to me and generous with your time.

To Keating Family so sorry to hear the passing of Larry, he pure gentleman first meet him working on moore st, curhoor and even in his own house had great days and few tough ones working but Larry always came up with a solution, had great chats about local and county GAA over tea before we start. I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. Keating, my former mathematics teacher. Beyond formulas and equations, he taught many of us the value of persistence, logic, and thinking critically — lessons that have stayed with me far beyond the classroom.
