To Susan and all your family. I learnt today of your amazing mother's passing, what a lady she was. Going back to when we were kids in Drumcondra, sharing the fact that our parents were shopkeepers, we had so much in common and so much to be grateful for. Mothers who inspired and encouraged their children to get on with it, never spoilt but so loved. Your mother to me was a powerhouse with all her children around her, all encouraged to be strong. I understand she drove up to quite an age, how fantastic. Your mother and her sister, whom we used to call "Miss Hick", made parcels of meat and left them on shelves around their beautiful shop for the underprivileged in Drumcondra. I will never forget that. Lena is up above now, duty done, contract fulfilled. May she rest in peace.

Lena was a close friend to our parents. She played pitch and putt with our father when they had both retired and spent many an hour chatting with our mother in the sun on the front step.
