It’s very sad to hear that Leo is gone. I first met him in the late 80’s and he was one of the most genuine people I had the good fortune to spend some great times with. RIP my friend.
My dear friend Leo, I'll miss you so much. You were a true friend - a kind, innocent and beautiful person I was so blessed to know. Always in my prayers xxx
I knew Leo years ago. A gentle soul. Rest in peace, I will never forget you. Condolences to Leo's family.
As a young man in the Army School of Music in the 80’s Leo was always supportive of us younger lads. So sad to hear the sad news of his passing and see the great tributes from his former comrades. I think everyone was so proud of his success with Hothouse Flowers, something he richly deserved .

RIP Leo from all in the V Column band.
RIP Leo from all in the V Column band.
Sincere sympathy to Leo’s family on his passing. We had some wonderful times back in the 70s in the army band. He was an exceptional sax player with a great sense of humour who always gave me a good laugh in any situation. He introduced me to a lot of great musicians with the massive record collection that he had. He has left this world far to young and I will never forget those years we spent together in Cathal Brugha Bks. Rest in Peace Leo. 🎷🎺
Flooded Now with memories on the hearing of Leo's Passing. Thank you Brother Leo for the Lessons in Hip, Manners and Individuality. Our Sessions at the college of music fondly replaying now in my head, Playing through the Otto series for saxophones where you would effortlessly transpose as i was on Tenor mind blowin. The letter you sent to me in Ohio via my late mother with the beautifully written Musical notation of Dukes A train on the envelope, telling me that you will be in Cleveland with the Band. Your encouragement for my Musical Journey and Friendship in the Wonderful Dublin of my Youth...Thanks, Love Mack. (Surrey UK)

I sent a private message of condolence to Leo's close family and friends.
By October 1965, Leo and I, had left different convents - Kilkenny / Drogheda, arriving for the first time at The Artane Industrial School, Dublin.
We sat in the same Primary Class .
We were invited to join the Artane Boys Band training. I picked the French Horn, Leo picked the Alto Saxophone..... in Leo's case, the rest is history. I'll defer commentary on my musical instrument aptitude.......I plead the 5th......haha!
Leo Left Artane for his new home June 1970.
By August 1970...Both 14, separetely, joined the Defence Forces Army School of Music. We advanced ( well Leo excelled stratospherically) Ocotber 1972, to become members of The Army No.1 Band, based in Rathmines. Leo and I had long lasting friendship, appreciation of each other, great sense of humour.......a bit like myself. what a great character, a great laugh!! I have never heard Leo say a bad word to or about me.......or hear me say a bad word to others about Leo. I let Leo do his own thing.... I never envied his talent. I am proud Leo followed his dream and made us proud of him. I am going to miss Leo A lot.
Leo was a true and lasting friend.
. .......See ya ... Gerry Roberts
