This is indeed a sad day. Leo arrived in the school the same year as myself. My housemaster in my second year, he became something of a mentor for me. He also became a good family friend and was a regular and welcome visitor to our house.
We stayed in touch after school, and we shared many a beer in various hostelries in Limerick and various holiday resorts in Clare over the years. His enthusiasm and gregariousness were infectious. I have no doubt that he is resting in peace.
My condolences to Timothy, the rest of his family and the Glenstal community.

It was always lovely and a source of happiness to meet Leo, and I was delighted to see him again only a few months ago. His was a life spent looking after others. His sense of humour was unique and infectious. He was always a team player. He had admirable moral courage in doing the right thing, regardless of what others thought. It was such a pleasure to have known him for the last 69 years.
