The older faces are slowly drifting away from the horse fairs and that’s such a pity. Leo was a certain at every fair with his pocket watch he’d stand there with a sharpness of mind and appearance. What a pleasure it was to have a chat be it for five minutes or half an hour. I discovered who Leo Leary was many years ago when he called out to my friend Tom Perrott in Ardgehane with a small lorry and horses heads sticking out to the sky. I thought all my prayers were answered as I had written to Santa for a pony not long before so I figured he must have got my letter that year😂 That’s my first memory of hearing his name being spoken and from there on I learned for myself what a gentleman he was. He must have had the best rain gear in Ireland cause he could stand for hours in any fair no matter what rain came he would cover up and stand out. My condolences to all who mourne Leo and May he rest in peace now🙏🙏🙏
