My sincere sympathies to the Reilly family on the sad passing of Leo. I have many fond memories of the Botany lab in the Albert College in the mid ‘70s when I was a postgrad and Leo was my mentor - a thorough gentleman. May he Rest In Peace.

I recall Leo fondly from my student days in UCD. I still have an image of him arriving on his bicycle to The Ag Block, bicycle clips around his trouser ankles, then scrambling with arriving students for one of the last available bike rack slots. RIP. Condolences to all of his loved ones.

I knew Leo in the winning 1960s[Galway 3 in a row]as we were in seperate digs in Iona Road,Glasnevin close to the Albert College and UCD in Earlsfort Terrace and Croke Park. It was with shock and deep sadness that I heard of Leo's death. We have known each other since the early '60s in the Faculty of Agriculture. I always thought of him as friendly, kind and genuine. But it was during my time as head of department that I had much closer contact with him and that these earlier impressions were confirmed. I found him to be open, constructive and cooperative. He was frank, he was straight, characteristics I admire. What you saw was what you got. I mourn his passing and to you, Kathleen and to your family, I offer my deepest sympathies.

I was very saddened to hear of Leo’s death. It brought back memories from 60 years ago from the historic Botany lab in the Albert College, Glasnevin where I first met Leo; and for my wife Beatrice who travelled on the train to the West many times in those bygone days with Leo and Tony Farragher. Leo and I were graduate students at the University of Illinois in the mid-1960s and were colleagues in the Faculty of Agriculture since that time until our respective retirements. Both of us soldiered through many meetings as members of the Gang of Four whose deliberations were the forerunner to the changes in the curriculum in the Faculty which subsequently occurred. He was a gentleman to work with.

Anything I know and remember on the identification of wild plants and flowers is due to his patience in guiding us through the steps of Webb's Flora. He will certainly rest in peace.

Condolences to all the Reilly family. I have the fondest memories of playing football with Granada every Saturday and Sunday as a child where Leo was so generous with his time. He was always kind and inclusive with all the boys. Time flies but memories last forever, thank you Leo. RIP
